I had a cold, that turned into a sinus infection, that has caused a lot of coughing. So much that now when I cough, I have a sharp pain just under the ribs on my left side. I'm calling my dr about it tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone has had to treat a cough during pregnancy, and what you took? My OB gave me a VERY vague list of ok cold medicines, and I wasn't able to find anything on it at the pharmacy.

The list mine gave me said guaifenesin (expectorant) and dextromethorphan (cough suppressant) were OK. That's Mucinex or Robitussin. But not all forms of either because some have other stuff in them, so you have to be careful. Of course, I'd still check with your doctor before taking anything.

very sick last week and still have a cold. I've been drinking herbal tea (make sure you look up what kinds you can have) with honey and lemon, hot showers beating on my chest, vicks vapor rub on chest and neck, occasional tylenol and cough drops, and making sure I drink alot of water. That's really all you can do until the phlegm clears..
