My OBGYN called me today and told me they want me to go see a hemotologist because my platelet count was "very low". I know this means your blood doesn't clot like it should. Has anyone else experienced this during pregnancy? How did it affect you? I'm a FTM and trying to stay away from Google/webmd so I don't dianose myself with something completely rediculous and freak myself out! Thanks

Some women have low platelets during pregnancy...my friend has it happen with every pregnancy, and as soon as she gives birth they return to normal level. Sometimes steroids help improve counts, and if they are really low they might to a platelet transfusion. With super-low platelets you can't have a spinal or epidural, so you either have to go all-natural or have a c-section under general anesthesia.
It is great that they caught it early and are sending you to someone who can help you...hopefully with the right actions now you can get it under control early and not have to worry!
