Quinoa is a grain that is high in protein, iron, and fiber. I had it for the first time about a year ago and loved it! My husband isn't a huge fan, but I think it depends on the recipe. It's healthier for you than pasta or rice and can be used in similar ways. They make Quinoa pasta, too. Normally though it's kind of like cous cous.

I just found out today that you can even cook it like an oatmeal, which I may try! It's super versatile and super healthy. So far I've just used the boxed flavors at the grocery store, but I want to try new things I've also heard you can cook it in vegetable or chicken stock to make it tastier (though the boxed flavors I have had have been fantastic as is!)

Anyone else a fan? Got any recipes to share?

here is a great recipe that I changed up a bit on my own.. I use veggie stalk instead of chicken.. it smells funny if you arent used to the smell so you might prefer chicken stalk. I also dont like the avocado/greek yogurt topping.. The chicken spices are a perfect combination to spice it up a bit and I use my grill to cook it perfectly.. It takes no time at all to cook, too. Blackened Chicken and Cilantro Lime Quinoa

Sounds yummy! How's the calorie count, is it similar to rice?

Quinoa is great for me since I don't eat a lot of meat and can always use the extra protein (it's a complete protein) and iron. The Incas called it the Mother Grain for good reason! mamalamb, here's a comparison to brown rice in all sorts of nutritional categories: What's Healthier: Quinoa or Brown Rice | Prevention.

I only have access to plain old quinoa here, but you can get quinoa flour or quinoa flakes online or in natural food stores, and do more with those, especially for baking. I've even used it in cookies. I like to bake with stuff that makes me feel less guilty when I need a treat.

I have a box of it at home that I've been too nervous to try! lol
I saw a lot of recipes that cooked it in the chicken broth and apparently it's really really good that way!

I love it, but I can't eat too much or it stops me up. Well, it's either that or the black beans. Either way...

It's great stuff since it basically takes on the taste of whatever you cook it with. I like to make it with black beans and do kind of like a taco salad without the chips or meat.

We love it here I'll have to post a few recipes when I dig them up! I've made it in tacos with blackened tilapia, which is my favorite. Also mixed with pasta.

We love it here too. Since we're gluten free (well most of my family), it's a great alternative, still trying to get it right, but having fun experimenting.

Funny you posted this. I recently discovered the benefits of Quinoa and I buy the boxed kind. My kids don't seem to have a problem with it. I just bought some bulk kind from the store and I'm going to attempt to try it without the box tonight!!
