I go to school at Argosy University online. I'm a Psych major. I have the option to do one or two classes at a time. Each class is 5 weeks long. Typically, weeks 1-4 you have a 1-2 paragraph discussion due on Saturday and then a project or paper due on Wednesday. The final week you have your major project/paper due on Saturday and easy discussion on Sunday.
It's pretty easy to make time for everything. I enjoy it. But when I have to do my clinical and rounds I will have to go to an actual university.
I went to school last year, they had on line classes and classes at the University. I took one on line and one regular one. I only had to attend class once a week for 3 hours it was nice. I wouldn't recommend too many classes online only. They tend to be more difficult and time consuming.

I do but mine is actually offered by my community college and apparently most community colleges have things they offer. I chose it because it's like a third of the cost of an online school! I take four classes but I'm only in my second semester. I got a 4.0 last semester, hoping to do okay this time!!
I recently graduated with my Ed.S (Education Specialist) degree from Walden University. I would say that if you are staying at home, GO FOR IT. The biggest thing with online classes, at least at Walden, you have your course work posted by modules with assigned readings and videos with due dates. It does take a certain amount of time management to get it done since you don't have that face to face obligation. My ex-husband completed his online degree with Kaplan and it was structured a tad differently. He had to log-in at a certain time two nights out of the week and participate in online lecture and chat. He was ok with it except when my then 1 year old wanted to help daddy type, or throw a tantrum and I was at work.
Good luck in your endeavor!
The local community college has about half my classes online. So I do as much as possible online and the rest in person (usually 1 class per quarter right now).
DH goes through Western Governors university which is AWESOME, but has limited programs (RN to BSN - nursing, Teaching, Business, and IT). It's a great option for busy folks. Essentially you pay per 6 month term (about $3000/term). You can complete as much as you want during that time. So if you have time and are motivated you can get it done super fast, or if you need more time you can just do the minimum requirement of 12 credits per term. My sister got her Master's in teaching (already had her bachelors) in one term. The classes are at your pace, there's no real "homework" to do. You either have a final exam or a performance assessment (such as an essay or project) for each class - that's it. Pretty neat

I have never done school with a family to worry about.. but I do have a degree. I did my first semester at a private university (way too pricy and involved in everything) then I switched to a community college and did one semester in person but with Washington DC traffic, I was spending so long commuting so switched for my last two semesters I could do at a community college to all online with in-person tests at the college testing centers. They used the blackboard learning system. That was possibly the best scenario I had.. Then I switched to a State University to finish my Bachelors for 2 years. I wish I did the whole first two years online with in person testing!! It would have saved me at least 12k in student loans!! I went to UMass for the rest of my degree.. and it was definitely something that would have taken longer at that work load with kids in the picture. I don't know how Im going to get my masters done if I have to do an in person program.. I definitely had great experiences with online classes, though!! Once I pay off my final 9k in student loans, I am going to try to find a masters program online if possible!
I did a few classes of my Bachelor's degree online. It is convenient to be able to do the work whenever you want, but in my opinion MUCH more difficult. I took Accounting online which was probably my first mistake, and it was so much harder to teach yourself! Your professors are there to help but you really teach yourself a lot. Some people like that and do well with it, but I did not. I am the type of person to ask a million questions! That's why I became an auditor
