I ended up laying in bed hysterically crying last night because I was convinced that the ER doctor was wrong and I really DO have a blood clot (oh the perks of an anxiety disorder!)... Joey called my friend and had her come sit at the house with the kids and he took me to the ER for a 2nd opinion. My BP was a little high (142/83) but it was due to the stress I'm sure. We got back, and got the most amazing doctor ever! He was so nice, and helpful- we were both so impressed. Not only did he ASSURE me that I don't have a clot, he told me all the reasons WHY it's not a clot! And if you have any type of panic disorder, you will understand that's exactly what I needed to hear. He told me how it would feel and what it would look like and why the ultrasound machine wouldn't have missed it. It was awesome and I immediately felt better!
He said, however, he couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong. Basically it was most likely muscular or nerve related (not sciatic nerve because it's in a completely different spot), and he told me he would give me a prescription for a pain-killer that is safe during pregnancy. I originally was going to pass it up but Joey said, "I watched you CRAWL UP THE STAIRS because your leg was so bad, take the medicine!" So I have the Rx I'm just not sure if I'll end up filling it.
Dr left to get me the prescription and paper work, Joey and I sat there chatting. He's got a rash he got from swimming at the rec center (public pool) but it's been bothering him really badly the past day or two. It's VERY painful, and not itchy at all. I got an idea and googled shingles... found the picture and showed him: IDENTICAL to what he has! I was like, "Oh sh*t! I think you have shingles! You need to talk to the doc on board." (his submarine has a doctor on board for the guys)
The doctor comes back in and hands me my prescriptions and randomly says to me, "I was just thinking about this... if in a few days you develop a rash on your thigh where it's really sore, you need to call your Ob or come back to the ER. Sometimes people present to the ER with a very sore spot and pain... and it's actually the beginning of shingles. It's not dangerous to you or the baby, but you would need medication to resolve it or it can be very painful for you." I was like, "Oh!! We were just talking about shingles!" I told him about Joey's spot and he asked to see it-- takes one look, asks him a few questions, and says "Yep- that's shingles alright!" So he quickly registered him and wrote him prescriptions for it right there!
Then he told me not to be surprised if I got the rash too... he said shingles isn't contagious (I've had the chicken pox when I was a kid, so did DH) unless you didn't have the vaccine or chicken pox as a child. So he said most likely I would not have gotten it from him or given it to him, but may have just had the strange luck to both develop it together.
Soooooo we'll see if I end up with a rash, too! This has been an eventful weekend!! Hope all my sickness related drama is over now!! (Well I have a sore throat and stuffy nose now too but those are courtesy of my 3 year old lol)
