Just wondering who has had it previously and if there are any "signs" prior to the test?

I have insulin resistance already which apparently puts me at a higher risk but I never got it with chase. I have no reasons to worry at this point, but I'm wondering if my "reaction" to sugar lately is an early sign. I can't handle sugar almost at all now- if I eat it, it makes me jittery and panicky. I've cut out all sodas (caffeine and no caffeine), and most of the sweets I've been craving. Now I have to figure out healthy snacks

Also when do they do the testing? I can't remember

They told me sometime between 25 and 28 weeks, but that might depend on the test you are doing (1 hr, 2 hr, etc). My clinic does the two hour test ... blargh.

I have insulin resistance too, and GD with last preg. I am almost positive I have it this time too. I don't understand why my dr. won't test me earlier. I notice even just 1/2 a root beer, no caffeine and I start having trouble with my vision, eye twitching.. feeling weak, tired or even too many carbs. It's really hard to find things to eat when you are really hungry.

I was insulin resistant, too.. and my mom had GD with me.. and I have never reacted too well to sugar but now I had some girlscout coookies the other day and I couldnt keep my eyes open! I had to sleep! That has happened a few times with sweets.. I wouldnt trust myself to drive like that. I hope I dont have it but really have to know!! They said they wont test until 28 weeks!! I feel like they should test earlier since it runs in my family, too! Im really frustrated with that. Luckilly I only have just over 4 weeks left until that.. but they will probably make me wait until about 30 for that appointment.

I haven't had it with any of my pregnancies... well, I declined the test last pregnancy and will this time. But I do occasionally test my BS since I have two type I diabetic siblings. I'm not sure if there are symptoms...

I had it last time, and I'm pretty sure I have it again now (tested at 12 weeks and okay, but feeling worse now). I feel very sleepy when I have sugar completely sick (nauseous, an anxious, just blah) if I have way too much in one sitting. It's different for each person and some have few symptoms, so it's important to get tested if you're at risk.

Thanks for the help ladies!

I have my next Ob visit in about 2 weeks so I will call before the appointment and ask when the GD test is.
My Ob's office is doing a different test now... I can't remember exactly what it is but I think instead of doing the 1 hour and then 3 hour if you fail, it's a 2 hour one? Something like that!

Yeah, they switched it to two hours at my clinic because they got too many false positives with the one-hour. So two hours it is!

I had this with baby #1 and it came as a shock. I was a thin runner with a bit of a sweet tooth, but the only actual risk factor was my age. I had negative urine sugar tests until the 26 week appt. Then I went for my 1 hour test. I knew I was positive because of the way I felt after the test. (The same thing happened when I treated myself to a big chocolate bar after work a week prior).

I read somewhere, (can't find it now), that placenta is part of the issue with developing GD, so if you have GD before the placenta is fully developed, you actually had diabetes before being pregnant. There is too much information out there and not enough accurate and factual information. I never recevied any from my DR or anyone. I just met with a nutritionist once and started testing my blood 4x per day. I was diet controlled though.

I am coming up on my 24 week appt and know that i am now in the risk zone for getting it again. I"m just glad I'm not alone and can share some of the frustrations with other mommies out there/

I have IR also, but have never had GD. I'm hoping this time will be the same.
