With my first 2 kids my husband has great medical insurance and we only had the pay a copay of $100 for a birth! I was curious this time around because my husband works for a new company and we have a new deductible plan where we pay 20% of various services. Turns out the birth is going to cost around $1,400. It is higher than I thought it would be but a lot cheaper than having no insurance at all! Thank goodness we have money in the savings to cover it so I am not trying not to worry about it. How much do you ladies have to pay for a birth?

We are self pay, we don't have health insurance and I'm thinking it's going to cost us around $5,000-$7,000 when it's all said and done. I've been paying towards it every month since the first appointment. Bah.

We are thankfully, almost 100% covered again, I actually double checked online because I have a friend with Kaiser due this month and the same thing happened to them, her last birth was $100 and this one is going to be like $1500. It looks like mine will still just be about $50, thank goodness, because I was freaking out!!!!! lol

We have Tricare too so everything is covered!

My old insurance with DS I paid total $250 out of pocket. A $50 Ob fee at confirmation of my pregnancy and then $200 after his birth.

midwife is not covered under my insurance so I paid about $2200, IF we need to do a hospital transfer I think it will be fully covered.

My insurance has a maximum out of pocket as 2,000. My ob alone is 1300 (my delivery deposit, then extra for nst and us) then hospital expenses. Then there are hospital expenses. Covered at 90% so thats not that bad.
I'm expecting a nice sized bill for the baby after.

My cousin in law, got a bill for her hospital stay at 1500 or so, and the baby's bill was another $1200. And that was after insurance. I want to say her ob deposit was $1800 to be paid before delivery.
Babies are very expensive.

I am sooo thankful to have coverage as I had just lost Tricare before I found out I was pregnant.. I am thankful my life was kind of a mess and not together yet because I was working temporarily in retail and qualified for state assistance medical. I am using a midwife team and delivering at the best hospital in the area which is exciting. I would have been doing a home birth by myself if I had to come up with that kind of money. Getting all the baby items was tough enough!

*hugs* to you Melissa! I know how hard it is doing this on your own- I spent my pregnancy with Chase alone too! I'm glad you were able to get the care you wanted!

It's 100% covered except for a deductible (I think $250 or $350) on maternity-related lab costs.

Thanks! Its sad that I seem to be in a better position now than when I found out I was pregnant, though... I put my entire paycheck from weeks 10-22(when I left the job for not following doctors orders) to getting all I needed.. then once I left I was able to get a little more assistance from the state and I signed up for WIC as well. I do have a degree and college loans but have never been able to find a decent job due to lack of experience and I could never get any assistance before. Now, since I will have my baby boy, the state will help me find a better job and/or send me back to school for something to get a better job. It is crazy that I do everything "right" and have my degree by 21 and then struggle but then when I have an oops and get pregnant (dont get me wrong, I am excited about my little man now) I finally get a little bit of help and can breathe. I see my little man as a blessing as in the miracle of life.. but also as what it took to get anywhere. Yeah, I may not be living in luxury but life is not bad now. Its just been a crazy year.. believe it or not, this time last year I was teaching in Germany as a permanant substitute and I spent my memorial day weekend in Spain!! Life has changed sooo drastically since then but I wouldnt change it. I got my traveling done for a while and now I get my little man and then maybe I will find a real man. Just doing things a little out of order.

This all makes me thankful it is covered by the healthcare system here. If I were still living in the states, I don't know how I would cover birth.

My first birth I had insurance through my job with the federal government and the cost was very low. My second, we had private insurance, and it was insanely expensive. It took us 2 years to pay it off! This time, insurance is through DH's job, and we're covered completely.
