Has anyone had any luck taking a probiotic supplement for constipation?

I'm at my wits end. I have tried every safe remedy and this is my last resort

they dont really do anything for me but I dont take too much.. If I have to go to the point it hurts I take colace stool softener.. My midwife said its safe.

When I was taking Zofran (that stuff plugs me up SO badly!), I found that eating 1-2 Activia yogurts a day really helped a lot. I think everyone is different, but it can't hurt to try. I hope you feel better soon!

I take a probiotic everyday, but I have no idea if it effects me in the area. For me, mostly warm water, walking, green veggies, apple juice, and sometimes stool softeners.

Dear Fins: Probiotics can really help with pregnancy-related constipation. A couple of things to know before you take a probiotic. First, be sure it's a multi-species product. The more bacteria you have, the better your gut health will be protected. Also, make sure you take a probiotic about 30 minutes before eating your first meal of the day to get the full benefit of the good bacteria in your digestive tract.

daily use of Benefibre last time was my godsend. They don't make benefibre anymore (or it is being reformulated or is just not available in Canada) Perhaps something similar? I had a glass of water mixed in with benefibre every morning. But with those powders I found you had to put the benefibre in room temp water and stir quickly until dissolved and then add ice cubes to make it cool. I tried no name benefibre this pregnancy but it just gave me bad gas.

I have a pretty regular GI tract, so constipation hasn't been too much of an issue for me...but early in my pregnancy, we got this ice cream from Well's Blue Bunny, it was called Sweet Freedom Double Strawberry. I have NEVER had anything clean me out so well...please pardon my language, but we call that stuff the "****-cream" because it really gets things moving.
It's one of those low-calorie ice creams with the warning on back that says "those sensitive to sugar alcohol may experience a slight laxative effect." Well, it really worked when I was having some backed-up issues so I would just have a cup of the stuff and a few hours later, voila!
