Since Riley is breech and an external version is not an option, I was told I'd have to schedule a C-section. While not ideal, I'm okay with that. I gave the scheduler my preferred dates and times and basically told her "anything early morning, not a Friday". She just called me back and said that the ONLY available appointment the hospital has is 3:30 pm on Friday 8/16 and she went ahead and booked me for it.

What are your thoughts on a late afternoon c-section on a Friday? I was thinking that the doctor would be more rushed and fatigued near the end of the day, and the nursing staff on the weekends would probably be a little crappier. However, maybe the nursing staff will be awesome because there won't be as much bureaucracy as on a weekday?

I'm pretty disappointed in the whole thing (not c-section, just date and time). I also don't want people to think it's "open season" to come visit since I'll be there over the weekend. Please help me calm my nerves!

I have always done early morning c sections. Once again with this baby I am first on the surgery schedule.

Im so sorry they were all booked. I chose my day and time. Our hospital will schedule you 2 months in advance to make sure you get what you want. They should really be scheduling a lot farther ahead than that..

If I were you.. I would take it honestly. I understand your uneasiness but Im sure everything will be fine!

This has nothing to do with a csection, but at the last hospital I delivered at the lactation consultant was not available on weekends. If that matters to you at all I'd ask to see if they are available on weekends.

I'd take it and just let everyone know ahead of time that you want to limit visitors!

I had Daniel on a Friday at 12:45 p.m. I had no problem with nursing staff or doctor availability or ability.

The only thing that bothered me was that he never had his hospital picture taken (not sure if this was because it was a Friday or just availability).

Will there be a chance you get bumped if there are moms who need emergency c-sections? You may want to tell the family that there is a chance you may be bumped for c- section and you will call when things are well, so tell them not to rush to the hospital saturday morning.

My hospital doesnt' work on a m-f schedule. basically continental shifts for nurses and doctors. they dont' leave friday afternoon, so that part should be okay.

I'm sorry you didn't get the date/time that you wanted It seems weird that that is all they had available. I guess because it isn't urgent?? Is this the hospital that you are set on or is there another you would consider if they have better availability.

My csection was a Tuesday at 7:30am (first one) but it was an urgent situation.

I had all my babies on Fridays, like the other ladies said, the doctors work on shifts that rotate, not on a regular 9-5 M-F schedule. My nursing staff was also excellent. However, like UM, there was no lactation consultant availalbe over the weekend. I had vaginal births and was released on Sunday afternoon, so I never saw one during my stay, but with a c-section, you're more likely to stay for 4 days.
If you're concerned about visitors, I would expect that to be something you'll have to address regardless of the day you deliver and I would talk to you partner and decide together what you want. I was exhausted by visitors with my first--my ILs showed up before I even held my baby and my hubby had to threaten to have security show them out--I don't accept any visitors now besides my husband, I figure I've more than earned a couple days of peace and quiet to get to know my baby, recover and establish nursing before I have to share her.

Time of day would concern me, too, mostly because I'd worry about other surgeries running long or emergencies coming in and getting bumped to much later and that's a long time to go with nothing to eat or drink.

I, personally, wouldn't schedule a c-section for baby's position until after my due date, in the hopes of giving her more time to turn or that natural labor would start and encourage her to squeeze into position. But I don't know much about your history or condition, but, if 8/16 is before your due date and you're not happy with the day or time, I'd ask about the next week.

My first was at 11pm on a Tuesday, the second was noon on a Saturday. The second was much easier! The hospital wasn't nearly as busy, I didn't have any complaints about the staff. As far as the visitors, I would let people know ahead of time that you'd rather not have visitors in the hospital. I think most people would understand, especially with a c/s. Nurses are usually pretty good about keeping people away too if necessary
