My name is Kelli and I'm 22 weeks along. I lurk here a lot but this is my first actual post .
This is my second pg (I have a 3 year old) and my gd was detected in the first pg at around 28 weeks. This time, I took the 1 hr GTT at 10 weeks and failed. I had already been testing my blood sugars for about 2 weeks so wasn't really surprised, and decided to skip the the 3 hour and just proceed with the diet, nutritionist etc. My numbers have been okay overall, but I have some high numbers at times (usually my fault b/c I ate too much or ate something I shouldn't have). So far my dr. doesn't think I need insulin. My dr. and perinatologist both believe I may have been pre-diabetic due to the early onset. I have been on metformin during the entire pg (and was on it before I got pg).
My main concern right now is that my numbers seem to be all over the place. I try very hard to keep my numbers within range and they are usually close to the max I am allowed after meals or a few points over. Friday night I waited too long between my last snack and dinner and had my first hypoglycemic episode. I felt fine and then suddenly really nauseous. I tested my blood sugar and it was 56 ! Have any of you ever experienced this before? If so, is this common with GD? I was surprised that it would effect me because I am not even on insulin (yet!). I didn't realize you could get hypoglycemia without being on insulin. Sorry this is so long! I appreciate any input!
