I got diagnosed with GD around 27 weeks, and put on insulin at 30 weeks. What are the chances I'll have GD after giving birth? My doctor said he couldn't guarantee it, but that I shouldn't have diabetes or need insulin anymore. I really hope so!

I've had GD twice now and its gone away both times after birth. Its hard to tell if it will go or stay though honestly but I think around 80-90% of us have ours go away. My aunt had my cousin almost 8yrs ago and her GD stayed after she had her.

My first round of GD went away right after birth.. And this time around I think I may be pre-diabetic.. I don't know.. I have to wait and see after I'm done with this pregnancy.. What I advice for you to do is get checked for diabetes once every year.. It's a simple blood test and you don't have to do that yucky glucose test.. Because you never know when the diabetes will show up.. It's good to catch it when it starts, instead of letting it harm your body.. Or worse, if your pregnant and don't find out your type 2 diabetic until your in your second trimester, the diabetes can do some serious damage to your baby since the first trimester is the most important time to control your blood sugars..

I had gd for my second pregnancy was on insulin and all. It did go away after I gave birth to him. I since have had my third child. I did not have gd with her pregnancy. But once you have had gd your chances are higher in life to get diab.
