Hi all,
This is my third pregnancy and have just been diagnosed. I am 20 weeks pregnant today and the nurse called and told me that because my fastings are high- I didn't fail my blood test yesterday but was 5 points from failing, she wants to put me on a medication. I was wondering if any of you have used Insulin or Metformin or Glyburide and if you had any pros or cons. With my other two pregnancy's I was able to stay diet controlled the whole time. Anyone's input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi, I am your host Rebecca. I am a Type 1 diabetic. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, my little man Grant was born Saturday

I took Metformin to get pregnant and I HATED IT. It was so rough on my stomach.

I have been on insulin since last February and I LOVE it! I have very precise control over more sugars and a little more flexibility with my diet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

I was on Glyburide during my pregnancy. I am like you in that my fasting levels were always high and this brought it down very well. I took it at night before bed because it made me very nauseated - that was the only side effect I had.

I take 2.5mg of Glyburide twice a day. It took a while to figure out when to take it so it works best for my BGLs. Metformin I took for my PCOS prior to pregnancy and it is very hard on my tummy. I have to ease into taking the full dose, but the Glyburide gave me no side effects and my BGLs are under control. I was diagnosed with GD at around 26weeks, I think.

I've been on Glyburide for 3 weeks - it's not working. I think the Progesterone I am taking interferes with it.

They are already considering medicine? How high was your fasting?

I have a friend on glyburide and she hasn't complained on it. Seems to help with her fasting and her breakfast.
