Hi my name is Jackie and I am new to this board. I however am not new to gestational diabetes. I was diagnosed when I was pregnant with my son back in 2008. I again was diagnosed with this pregnancy. My day numbers are fantastic and so far my fasting numbers have been bad, but not horrible. The last four days they were 101, 102 (3 days straight). The doctor wants them under 100. I have a call in to the doctor to let them know. My problem this go around is Ketones. I have had large and small (3 days in a row) levels in my morning urine. I do not remember having an issue with my sons pregnancy. I am eating over 2000 calories a day and feel like I am constantly feeding my face. So I am confused as to why I have higher levels of ketones. Does anyone else seem to be having this same issue????

Carb count for my day is:

Breakfast - 30g
Snack - 15g
Lunch - 60g
Snack - 30g
Dinner - 60g
Snack - 30g

I've had issues with ketones for weeks... I've been on the gd diet for nearly two months and have just now gotten to the point where my ketones are usually small or trace. I've found that if I eat a TON of protein before bed it really helps. I eat peanut butter toast as my last snack of the day and I really slather it on there. Seems to do the trick! I hope that helps some.

Thanks I'll try it. I did hear back from my doctor and they are not concerned over my higher ketone levels. Although they decided that my fasting numbers are high enough to put me on bedtime insulin .

My doctor wouldn't consider 101 or 102 significant enough to be concerned let alone put you on insulin.now 120S or 130s yeah med adjustment.I agree more protein in the evening should help also lower your lunch and dinner carb intake.

Well after the forth day of 102 numbers I called to let them know and sure enough I am now taking 10 units of insulin at bedtime. Good news is my number has been under 100 all three mornings after taking the insulin. In fact yesterday all the my numbers: fasting, before eating, and after eating were under 100. I also tried your suggestion of just having a piece of peanut butter bread which ends up cutting my snack in half helped too. My ketones are still on the higher side, but when I asked about that the doctor said they were not concerned with them at all. I go to my next appointment so we will see what they say about my progress. Thanks ladies!
