Ive been craving grape nuts..so i had DH pick some up! They have a ton of fiber and whole grains, so i figured they would be ok. Well i look on the back of the box and they have 46 g of carbs . Now im afraid to eat them! I dont have any more test strips so i can experiment and see what it does to my sugar, but i want to eat them so bad!
Thank you Mom2*Lauryn*Jacob* for my gorgeous siggie!
If your numbers were pretty good typically before you ran out of test strips, maybe eat them later in the day! I had a pretty good craving for Corn Flakes (30g of carbs), so I started having them occasionally as a snack in the afternoon and my dinner numbers are still always under 120 2 hours out. Maybe you could have them for lunch with some protein, other than dairy? Like I know eggs keep my sugars really in control, so if you have the appetite, maybe you could have a bowl of Grape Nuts along with some eggs or egg whites.
D'oh! Isn't ironic that eggs and bacon are a "better" breakfast for us than grape nuts or oatmeal? I was sick of eggs the other day and tried to see if I could get away with just oatmeal and a banana. No way. I say go for it with some protein.
I have the same problem with my shredded wheat and bran cereal. Loaded with fiber, but 49 grams of carbs.
Whenever the craving (crazy that i crave that cereal) gets really bad, I just eat it at night after my last test.
I just don't care if I spike after that because I truly believe that it's not hurting my baby at all. I'm eating so healthy with this pregnancy, so I'm confident my baby will be a healthy size.
