On Friday morning, I went my appt with my midwife planning on getting labor rolling. She swept my membranes, then called L&D to make sure they could take me and sent me straight there. I arrived just after 9am. It took a while to get checked in and set up with monitors and stuff. The midwife working came in and swept my membranes again more aggressively around 10:30. She also ordered pitocin, which didn't show up to get started until almost noon. The pitocin got me contracting strongly and regularly every 2-3 mins, but nothing super painful. Pretty much what I had at home in false labor. Sure enough, when she checked me about 4 hours later, no progress. She decided to break my water. HUGE gush. She was shocked by how much fluid I had. That definitely got things going. I was strong and handled it without medication to 9 cm. Then things were just too intense and I started asking for meds. They gave me a shot of something in my IV to take the edge off, I forget what. That helped just a bit for about an hour, then things got bad again. I stalled at 9 cm for hours.

We tried really hard pushing for the last hour before midnight to see if we could get her head down far enough to dilate that last cm and have her on the 14th like I had wanted so badly, but God had other plans. Once midnight hit, the midwife told me it looked like it was going to be a hard road to get that last cm. She wanted to restart the pitocin to get contractions strong enough to do that. She thought at this point I needed the epidural and I had been saying that for over an hour. I only held off hoping to get her out by midnight. So we did that. The contractions still didn't come like she wanted them to and she started talking about a c-sec. I wouldn't even discuss it. She said she would give it more time and see what happened. They slowly increased the pit, but things never got where they should have been. I felt a TON of pressure, but according to the monitors, they weren't adequate contractions. I shot down the c-sec conversation once more and she agreed to give it one more hour. When she came back, contractions were still much less than she wanted, but when she checked me, I was fully dilated and the head was right there. Woohoo! Time to push! It took pushing through 3 contractions to get her out. Her shoulders got stuck and that is the only reason it took that long. She finally arrived at 2:28am at 8 lbs, 7 oz and 19.75 inches long.

I tried nursing instantly but it took her a while to latch on. She had a fever and was fussy. After a while, she did latch and ate well. They had to check her sugar several times bc apparently her weight is really big for 39 weeks. She was fine. And her temp was down to normal by 7am. She has been pretty sleepy and hasn't nursed a ton. But I think she has gotten enough bc she has spit up a couple of times. We are all completely exhausted, but very happy to have this little one in our arms. DD came first thing this morning and just loves her. When we get home from the hospital, I will find time to post some pics.
