Any ideas???

I am currently 12.5 weeks and would be 15 weeks when we could go find out.. I am not 100% sure on what is offered in the states... And the costs as there would be no insurance of course...

Any ideas???

Here the only way you find out is the ultrasound at 20 weeks and they don't release it until 21 weeks...

Which state would you be going to? The best thing to do would be to google elective ultrasounds in whichever city you plan to travel to. Most websites have pricing and a description of what the ultrasound entails. I would say that, generally, they run between $50-$150 just depending on where you go.

And personally, I would probably wait until beyond 15 weeks if you will have to travel a distance for it, just to make sure you have a better chance at accuracy.

I agree with waiting past 15 weeks esp where you will have to travel to another country even. I had an ultrasound at 15 weeks with my last and they couldn't get a good enough shot and they tried. at 20 weeks it was very clear.
Also I agree google would probably be your best bet to find info about them.

Popping in from April's DDC. I live in the states and me and the other 4 mommies I know personally had to wait until at least 18 weeks to get an accurate gender scan. I'm not sure if it is the same everywhere, but I imagine they have us wait because that is when it is best to detect. I know how hard it is to wait! Good luck to you

I don't think it's worth it. There's no guarentee you'll get to see the sex. I'd stay where you are.
Happy Song and MamaLaurie like this.

For mine I had to be at least 16 weeks. And most of the other semi-local (up to four hours away) required you to be 18 weeks.

But that being said, I went at 16w2d and it was clearly a girl. The ultrasound tech didn't seem to doubt it in the least and spent 10 minutes of the ultrasound confirming that there were no hidden boy parts. (The last ten minutes she switched it to 4d. The whole thing was worth the $120 we spent. $99 for the gender determination and $20 for the print outs and a DVD)

The thing about the elective places is that this is all they do... so from what I had heard before I went was that they are thorough and accurate. And every one that I called was willing to let you come back a second time for no charge IF they could not determine gender the first time. In your case there are still travel costs to consider depending how far both you and the ultrasound are from the border.

For me it was worth it and I don't doubt the gender I was told at all.

I would definitely call and ask lots of questions about their policies or guarantees before making any decisions. And price shop! The lowest I found was $75, 4 hours away. Here was $99-$120 depending on if you wanted the DVD, so no drive time or travel costs, and some that I called were closer to $200-$250

The place I am going to is $50 but it is only for a 2D scan for gender determination at 15 weeks. If they can't determine gender they will do another scan within14 days for free To me, at this point in our lives, it is worth it. GL!

I'm planning a party & have to get the results off to the girl who is filling my pinata so I hope my clinic gives me the results right away!!! Although given how tight lipped they are, they might not

I'm less than a 2hr drive from Buffalo, NY, but I'm going to stay put & wait for my gender scan. But we can't have our party until a certain date anyway, so it works out best for us. If I really wanted to find out earlier I'd probably go!! Just so we could get started on the nursery & start shopping earlier!!!

I have the same question, do we need a referral etc.
Here you can find out right at the 20 week scan, in coquitlam at Medray Imaging, OR you pay for a private one and find out there. There are no other places in the lower mainland that tells you during your anatomy scan.
Would love to know from other USA moms if we can go and find out in the USA.

I did find some in Bellingham Washington online

ere they make us wait cus its a protection law for the baby. Gender wise, so no abortions based on it.
