Ok I have finally hit second Tri. Phew!! I have yucky nausea and M/S still. But I have to be honest. It has definitely gotten better. I hope I am not junxing myself by saying that though. Like this morning I onl dry heaved. There was no stomach acid or bile coming out Thats an improvement right?

Tomorrow I have my appt with fetal maternal medicine where they will councel me abt genetic screening and they have scheduled me for an NT scan and /or MaterniT21. My plan was to listen to what they had to say and then decline the first trimester screening (NT scan) and only opt for MaterniT21. But last night I was explaining to DH abt what these tests were exactly and he decided that we should have the NT scan as well, since the MaterniT21 does not test for spina bifida. He does not care if we have to spend a chunk of change on co-pay etc. (The insurance company had told him they cover both at 100% - whatever that means!) Now this Am early in the morning I had a horrible dream that they found abnormalities I am freaking out. I was pretty calm upto this point...but the NT scan scares me. I am not as worried abt the MaterniT21. Its ridiculous I know!

I know we've had so many threads about this before...Does it make sense to you guys to get both these tests? I am confused and worried, need some opinions. Thank you!

Sorry hun - I don't have any advice because I'm not that familiar with the MaterniT21. If your DH going wtih you to the consult? Maybe wait to make your decision after you hear what they have to say. The best choice is an informed choice.

I actually had both tests done. For me, I just want as much information as possible. Every step if the way makes me anxious but I'd feel worse not knowing anything crucial.

i know it's tough not to worry (((hugs))) My peri does NT scan standard + sequential screen (2 part blood test) standard and mine for both pregnancies was completely covered by insurance beyond the co-pay just to see him. With Savannah's pregnancy, the Harmony, etc. tests didn't exist, so NT + seq screen was pretty much only option without going to amnio...now with the new tests avail, he offers those as well - in my case he recommended we get it done at same time as seq screen (which we did) but it's worth noting that he indicated there is a failure rate with the new tests where in like 5-10% of cases they can't get the blood to culture properly, so can not provide results. I mention that only because that for me is reason enough to also opt for the NT scan - NT scan is def. not definitive of anything, but since you have only a narrow window for performing that scan, I felt like more info was helpful since I won't know for a couple of weeks whether or not the Harmony test was able to provide results.

Good luck to you, try not to worry - the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor that everything is fine with baby.

I would do both personally - just to have as much information as possible Everyone is different though - some people would want to know early and others would want to not know until birth, so I guess it depends on where you stand on that. Plus, with the NT scan, you get to see baby again lol

I got both done. I figure a little anxiety now is a small price to pay for peace of mind for the rest of the pregnancy.
