How many of us are here? I am really interested to see how this OB/midwife group will handle it. My previous OB is a very by the book, traditional kinda guy and I usually just go with the flow but I really want to avoid terbutaline or other meds like it this time, if possible. I still need to get some calcium/magnesium to start taking and hopefully that will make a difference.

I am just curious how many others deal with/have dealt with this?

I went into preterm labor at 25 weeks and had te twins at 31 weeks.

My doc is doing cervical length checks biweekly starting at 16 weeks. No medications will be started unless there is an issue

I had it at 33 weeks with Taylee. I was on bed rest and meds for 4 weeks and she was born at 37 weeks on the dot.

Omg Terbutaline. That stuff is horrible. It makes me shake like a crack addict.

Sawyer was born at 33 weeks and my last pregnancy landed me in the hospital several times. I was on bed rest for months. Definitely trying to avoid that this time. Theoretically, my issues are due to celiac disease so hopefully gluten free will make a difference. I'm also doing weekly progesterone shots. They put me on procardia last time for pretty much the whole second half (I think... Give or take a few weeks). Which was horrible. REALLY hoping to avoid that part.

I'm trying the calcium/magnesium this time too!

I went into pre-term labour at 23 weeks with my daughter.
I was extremely unimpressed with the way our hospital handled it (leaving me to wait for the doctor for 12 hours while regularly contracting). Fortunately it was a one-shot thing, I had an infection that reached my cervix. When I went in for follow-up after the course of pills to treat the infection, they never checked to see if it was actually gone. I highly suspect it was still there, because I had strong contractions daily up until my daughter was born at 38 weeks.

This time around I'm doing what I can to discourage infection; probiotics, cutting back on sugar, things like that. If things get bad I'll have to head to the hospital again, but I hope it doesn't come to that.

It does the same for me. I HATE it. It makes me shake, my heart race, I feel like I can't breathe.

I think my issues stem from a previous LEEP procedure. My cervix usually starts to shorten around 20 weeks, contractions start around 25-28 weeks and I am usually dilated to a 3-4 by 35-36 weeks. I held out until 38+2 with DD and 38+6 with DS, so I am really curious if it's not just the way my body works rather than actual pre-term labor, since I only took terbutaline when I felt the need and not on a regular basis and still didn't go into labor for a couple of weeks after stopping it both times.

Hopefully the Calcium/magnesium makes a difference this time for anybody using it!

I started contracting at 31 weeks with DS,was 3 cm dilated and 100% effaced at 35 weeks and he was born at 36 weeks. I am ot sure what the plan is this time as I haven't been referred to my OB yet (in ontario, you see your family dr untill 28 weeks then transfer to your OB). I've been told to expect modifeid bedrest starting around 30 weeks
