Does anyone have a postpartum hernia?

I have one after having the girls. It bulges out my belly button. I Never any issues. Today I lifted Rylan and her leg swiped it and it hurt horribly. When I talked to my OB about it a few weeks ago, she said it should be surgically repaired when I done having kids. I'm worried as baby grows it will hurt a lot!!

That totally stinks. I agree that sounds like it needs to be repaired later on. My dh actually had an abdominal hernia which he had surgery for. It was no big deal. They put mesh in, he came home the same day, and it has been fine ever since.

I think I might have a small hernia around my belly button, too, but it doesn't sound as bad as yours. Only when I sit up in bed or something now and then do I notice something bulge out a bit in the middle. But as soon as the pressure is off, it goes away, and it has never been sensitive or caused any pain.

You should look up hernias, though, and make sure you know the warning signs of strangulation. Not to scare you - it will probably be fine - but if a part of your intestine bulges out and gets stuck (it won't go back in), it could lose blood supply and kill that part of your intestine and you would need emergency surgery. Not cool. Symptoms, I believe, are nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea... gastro type of stuff. So if all of the sudden you have symptoms like this that don't seem to be from the flu... OR if you notice something is bulging out and you can't get it to go back in... definitely call the dr.

That's why my dh had surgery on his, because it got suck in the "out" position and wouldn't go back in. He didn't develop symptoms, but they did the surgery within a day or 2.

On that note! I'm sure I made you feel better! LOL I only say this stuff IN CASE...

Ha! I'm miss google, and forever looking up the worst case scenario. I think I do too many crunches to get out of bed. And perhaps I should limit my carrying of the twins!! :-p
