i just found out i have one. so im hit with a double whammy. anterior and low lying placenta. i don't know why my dr didn't mention this yesterday while i was there. i knew about the anterior but didn't know it was low lying. we have not had sex for 3 months so i guess thats a plus. i had a feeling i was going to not be able to have sex the rest of the pregnancy. hope and pray that i moves up and that i don't have any complications. what happens if it doesn't move up? i would have to have a c- section wouldn't i? i was really hoping for a vaginal birth this time again.

thanks for reading

I have a low lying anterior placenta also. There is a 95% chance it will move up and away from the cervix. Mine is 2.7cm from my cervix. Did the Dr say how close your placenta was from the cervix?

There are a few of us. Mine has moved up to be considered borderline. Still on pelvic rest. As long as it isnt covering or partially covering the cervix (then its usually called placenta previa) then you shouldn't end up with a c section. I also happen to have an anterior placenta but they aren't know to cause complications. Odds are that it will move out of the way

Also I wouldn't worry about a c-section. That only happens in rare cases (if the placenta doesn't move fare enough away). I go back at 28 weeks for another ultrasound to check on the position of the placenta and to make sure it has move far enough away. I did have partial placenta previa with my 2nd baby and by 28 weeks it had resolved itself. I wouldn't worry too much. Chances are everything will be just fine.

thanks ladies. the nurse didn't say how far away from my cervix the placenta is. they just wrote on the report that i have a low lying placenta. the nurse said that's why she was calling because she wanted to get me scheduled as soon as possible for another ultrasound to get it checked on. im just trying to take it easy now.
