Awhile back I asked about items that are a wise investment for a small space, and several BTDT moms suggested the Pack n' Play. I started looking into this, and it seems perfect for our needs. I would like to buy one that can be used as a bassinet as soon as the baby comes home with us. My question is, which one is the best investment? I looked on Amazon and they seem to have three flavours...one looks like a mini crib that may not be good for newborns, one has a changing pad/bassinet station (one station that can be flipped to fill noth needs) that looks rather shallow to be used as a bassinet, but I really don't know for sure, and one with a removable bassinet/rocker and separate changing area. What do you recommend?

This is one like we have
http://imagesus.homeaway.co.uk/mda01...d28597d1e4.1.9

We used it until our son was 2 but he was always a smaller kid so he was able to sleep in it for that long. We also didnt use the little changing area of it. but it does have the bassinet part in the top (might be hard to see in that photo) and we used it until he was able to roll over I think.

We have a very small bedroom and actually bought a real mini crib for our daughter and it is nice It is the same size as the pack and play:

Amazon.com: DaVinci Emily Mini Crib, Espresso: Baby

this is my review on it

I don't have any BTDT, but we're looking into this option too and we're leaning most towards this one:

Amazon.com: Graco Pack 'n Play Playard with Newborn Napper Station DLX, Jacqueline: Baby

Mainly because I like the idea of the newborn napper for during the daytime and I REALLY like the storage in the bottom. I'm also looking at this one though:

Amazon.com: Graco Pack 'N Play Playard with Reversible Napper and Changer, Adaline: Baby

which I'm assuming is the one you were referring to in your first post with the reversible napper/changer. More or less, we're trying to decide if the storage, vibration and easier cleaning of the changer (which I'm not sure will get a ton of us) is worth the extra cost.

I like the one with the bassinet and changing station. After they outgrow the bassinet you put the mattress in the net, them when they are too big for that you just drop it to the bottom. Very good for space saving.

InGenuity Deluxe Washable Play Yard with Dream Centre - Shiloh - Bright Starts - Babies "R" Us

We haven't used this one, but it's what I am leaning towards this time myself, since we are living in a much smaller house than when we had DS. I have heard great things about it, plus it's machine washable. I know whith Colin our pack n play got really yucky & was a PITA to clean. It has great reviews & seems to be a great all in one.

We're registering for this one:

Graco Pack 'n Play On The Go Travel Play Yard - Harlow - Graco - Babies "R" Us

Mostly because we like the pattern- we're doing owls and browns and oranges and greens, so it's perfect. But, I also like the price in case no one buys it for us, and it looks like it will suit our needs!

We're opting to have a changing table in the nursery because we're doing cloth diapers and as much as I see myself being the mom who changes baby anywhere in the apartment, I think it'll be harder to keep supplies scattered around the apartment doing cloth. Easier just to keep it all in once place. So, I don't feel like we NEED the packing play with changing table attachment.

I have been wondering which one to get too.. I know for sure we want one, there are just too many to choose from!

I like this one.. its really simple.. doesn't have the extra sleeper or changer.
Amazon.com: Graco Pack N Play Playard with Bassinet, Pasadena: Baby

Then there is this one.. Has everything on it. So they are opposite ends of the spectrum
Amazon.com: Graco Pack 'n Play Playard with Cuddle Cove Rocking Seat, Rittenhouse: Baby

I don't know what I want!!!

We haven't used it yet, but this is the one we bought.
Graco Pack 'N Play Playard with Newborn Napper - Hamilton - Graco - Babies"R"Us

I like that it has a vibrating bassinet. Reviews have said that it acts like a snooze button & can get you an extra few minutes sleep!

Is it possible to use a simple one with an newborn? Like this one...
Amazon.com: Graco Pack N Play Playard with Bassinet, Pasadena: Baby

...or do you have to get one with a separate bassinet if you want your newborn to use it? Do you have to buy a tiny mattress or pad for them or are they soft enough to use on their own?

I just wanted to chime in, I am using the same pack n play that was bought for my daughter 12 years ago and I have since used it for two kids who never slept in a crib just the pack in play.

Mine doesn't have any additional features, my main issue with using it with a new born is laying them down. Even after a vaginal birth it is a long way down. So I didn't use it for the first six weeks or so.

I have two in diapers right now and 100% of our diaper changes happen at our changing spot in the master bathroom.
