Hey everyone, I posted this in TTCAL, but since I can't find much info about this online, I thought I'd post it here as well, just in case any of you know anything about this!

So, I went to see my dentist today because for a while now (months/possibly more than a year) one of my teeth (or so I thought) has been bothering me. I can't really say it's been 'painful' at all. Just something that's annoying sometimes and can be felt some if I drink something hot or cold.

Anyway, fast forward to my appointment. She does x-rays and looks around my mouth. The x-rays show nothing at all. I try to show her where it bothers me. This takes a while because there is nothing she sees wrong. Finally she finds a tiny spot. It's what she calls an air pocket. What the heck is that? Anyway, she said she would clean it out and prescribed antibiotics and painkillers.

Anyway, I mentioned about ttc and she said I would have to see a periodontist and I wouldn't be able to have the procedure done while pregnant. She was very negative. Of course my whole world came crashing apart

I called the office where the periodontist only comes to once a month (remember, I live on a tiny island) and he'll be here next week Thursday. Would be perfect IF only I could get an appointment. Nope, no appointments available, but I can get a consultation appointment. Ok, when will he be here in July? The exact week when I am on vacation, go figure.

I just don't know what to do? Has anyone had an air pocket? Can anyone tell me anything about it? Will I be making a huge mistake ttc now? Is this something that has to be taken care of now or could it wait?

I'm just so sad right now...

I know absolutely nothing about it, but I couldn't read without sending . That sounds so frustrating and upsetting!

I'm not a dentist, but it sounds like it could be tooth sensitivity. I would go get some sensodyne toothpaste (make sure it doesn't have any whitening In it) and rub a little on it. Do that a few times during the day and see if that helps. Then, you might be able to postpone what she wants to do. Is there another dentist around? You could get a second opinion.

Thanks! I will get some sonsodyne toothpaste tomorrow to try that! There are no other dentists around, unfortunately Sometimes it's really primitive living on a tiny island!

Thanks for your advice!!!

I read something about gum disease and air pockets. That's why she is referring you to a specialist.
The reason it's a big deal (I think) is because gum health tends to deteriorate during pregnancy. I know mine does. They bleed a lot while I'm pregnant. Your mouth is a place that lots of bacteria breeds and its just best to avoid any type of infection while pregnant. If you have him disease or periodontitis you are more susceptible to bacteria.

This is just an assumption but I know it is best to get your oral health in check before you get pregnant so it doesn't worsen during pregnancy.
