My son was sworn in today into the U.S. Army. Even though I am terribly proud of him, I can't help but worry, worry, worry....He is scheduled for BT at FT Jackson and leaves 3 days after my due date. He goes straight to Va after that for AIT. Any encouraging words are appreciated

I know it's not quite the same, but I've had a ton of students go into the military right after graduation. I always get the same feelings as you... Proud but terrified at the same time. But the coolest thing is when a kid I thought might not make it in the real world shows up in my classroom, in uniform, totally changed for the better. I know it's hard, but yur son is about to make you more proud than you ever knew you could be.

I second this!! Though so stressful for any good mama, you'll see your little boy transformed into a man. Bittersweet, but be proud of him. I know I am! Thank you for raising him to be the kind of man who enlists. ((((((lots of hugs)))))) for your courage, and for his.

I don't have any advice or experience. But kudos to you for being a brave mom to a brave son! Wishing him all the best!

Thank you ladies for your support. I have gotten some negative responses from family and friends making me worry. He is excited and actually comes from a strong military "family". My father passed away several years ago and would have been such a support for him. He was retired Air Force.

I know he will do well

i'm sure you are proud & nervous...I have a number of family members who are current (or retired) military and it was a great career path for them and i'm sure it will be for your son too

I have nothing to add beyond what the other ladies have already said. Congrats to your brave son - he's going to make you one proud mama!

Congrats, mama! If he ends up at Ft. Meade, let me know. Hubby is Air Force, but we'd be happy to show him around the base and the area.

Hey popping in from October
I'm an Army wife actually!
The Army, while tough and scary, can be a good thing. I've seen it help a lot of young men and I'm sure it will do wonders for your son
Congratulations!
