ARRRGHHHHH I just got call from Dr office that despite voluntarily fasting for the 1hr GD challenge yesterday, yep I failed it. So I go back in next Thur to do the 3hr challenge...and i'm really depressed, I passed the 1hr with flying colors with Savannah's pregnancy and even though I don't have any symptoms of GD, I am now convinced I'm going to fail the 3hr since I had a problem with the 1hr test.

SIGH

I'm sorry to hear. I hope it was just a strange fluke and you do great with the 3-hour test!

For what it's worth, I was told that my doc does 2 h tests because so many people without GD fail the 1 h test, so they jump the gun and do 2 h to avoid having to repeat

Im sorry. Are they making you fast for the 3 hour? I would suggest you fast for atleast 8 hours. Good luck, be thinking about you.

thanks ladies...I have this feeling of dread that i'm going to fail the 3 hour (only really because I had no issue passing 1 hr with Savannah)...I actually voluntarily fasted for 12 hours before the 1 hour test to help avoid failing (a fail in itself LOL), and while nurse is telling me I only have to fast starting at midnight b/c my test is at 9am I'm going to fast again starting about 12 hours earlier just in case.

I kind of wish my Dr just did the 2 hour test because the nurse tells me this morning that if I fail 2 out of the 3 blood draws on the 3 hour that they will consider that failing entire test & diagnose GD. So since clearly i'll fail the 1 hour again, since I just did, that really means if I fail at the 2 hour mark they'll classify it as GD even if I manage to pass at the 3 hour mark....so not sure what the purpose is in keeping me for 3 hours except maybe to see if it's less severe if I can manage to pass at 3 hours?

Amanda - sorry to hear you failed your 1 hr too...stinks! I hope you're able to pass your 3hr on Tue KUP...my 3hr will be Thur AM.

One thing you may want to consider, a close friend of mine who is an OBGYN doctor told me that if you fast for too long it could backfire on you. Meaning your body will try to pull sugar from where ever it can. I know my hubbies sugar runs too high if he fasts for too long. If he fasts the recommended time period his numbers are fine. Just thought I would pass this along. Something to think about or check into.

Yeah that's good to know thanks! I don't generally eat anything after 9pm anyway (versus midnight cutoff the nurse suggests - hope i'm not up at midnight lol) so I think I'll get as normal a reading as I can anticipate....I wish I had thought to ask how badly I failed, it I just barely failed on the 1hr I would maybe feel more optimistic on passing at the 2hr mark on this next test.

Sorry to hear you failed. I hope that you don't have it. But I would try to get a normal reading and fast for as long as they tell you so that if you *do* have it, it will be known.

I just did the two hour today,, Yuck..

We used to do the one hour one here.. And with my first they sent me 4 X!!!!! ( dumb doctor ) It was always negative.. Then with my second ( midwife ) I declined.. And this time they changed the rules since four years again and really recommend it now but they only do the 2 hour not the one hour since so many people fail it and have to go on anyway...

Wishin you all the best that you pass! And that I passed too!! ( I have not heard my results yet.. probably not until next week.)

I'm thinking if they didn't tell you to fast then you don't have to. I didn't fast for mine and passed the 1 hour a few weeks ago.
