I have two cats who play constantly. The older one, Foxxy, aka 'the cow' had a bunch of scabs on her neck and shoulders last week. I figured it was because she and Bowie had been playing together like crazy recently. We had a nice cuddle before I left for work yesterday, but when we came home (about 10 h later) she went to get cuddles from DH who told me that I needed to have a look at her. She was nearly bald around both eyebrows, and a huge red rash all over her forehead, and had two open lesions that were actively bleeding and a large swollen lump that was also open. Luckily her vet was still open and I convinced them to stay late to have a look at her. We had to have her tested for parasites, bacteria, and fungi, all of which were negative (except fungi - we need to wait 2 weeks for that one). Apparently, it's an allergy that can turn into an autoimmune disorder. The poor thing developed another open lesion while we were there and had to have her skin lesions scraped for testing. They gave her a shot of steroids and then I got to take her home ($225 later) and clean her wounds. She was so good, but she just looks awful! I'm glad we took her in because the vet said it progresses really fast and she could have torn off half her face if we waited until tomorrow to have her looked at. Sorry for the extended ramblings - I just hate seeing any animal in any discomfort
