okay...so I did some internet research and I found two promising articles.
One says that MS is the result of magnesium deficiency (the mineral that relaxes muscle tissue and regulates enzyme production, protein production, etc).- and it makes a lot of sense to me. Most people don't get enough magnesium and get TOO much calcium
yes! absolutely- ! magnesium is absorbed transdermally especially well in pregnancy from what I've read! There is also magnesium oil you can apply to your skin. I've taken a couple epsom salts baths since I've been pregnant--- and before I knew I was pregnant I was taking them like every day-- when I was 3/4 weeks along. Need to restock though- we're all out- my fiance takes one every morning before work.

Ok, I dont want to be crude but I have to comment on this 'theory'. What a pig! Hah, my toothbrush is gaging me and has caused me to throw up more than once with this m/s! If I went for something larger it wouldn't be pretty
A lot of my friends swear by upping their magnesium intakes for morning sickness.
As for the magnesium/calcium imbalance, this is also very true. When I was pregnant with my second, I had severe leg cramps (not morning sickness, too badly, though) They were awful, especially toward the end. My midwife suggested eating more foods with magnesium to balance out the potassium. Here I had thought (as I had been taught in health class) that potassium is what helps muscle cramps, but that wasn't the whole story! The magnesium did help settle the cramps. Bananas, which I was also taught are good for muscle cramps (I assumed because of the potassium) actually have a good ratio of magnesium to potassium, which is why they are good for so many ailments! Brown rice, oatmeal, some kinds of beans and lentils, and spinach are all good sources.

Thank You, Pattyandthemoos, for my beautiful siggy!
I saw the magnesium idea on the HG forum. They think it might be a cure for regular morning sickness! One lady was taking daily Epsom salt baths. It didn't work for the severe cases though. I tried the bath but didn't do the oil. This is my 6th time through this and I've lost hope that anything will work. If someone offers up the "eat ginger" idea to me one more time I'm going to puke on them!
That actually makes sense! I've not had much in the way of nausea this pg and def not for more than a week now. Maybe my magnesium wasn't low... interesting.

Interesting, I seemed to have turned the corner on my m/s the last few days, but I also started having a daily smoothie (the only form of banana I can tolerate) this week as well. Whatever works!
Huh, I hadn't put together that I have been taking a magnesium supplement for about 2 years now because I have RLS (restless leg syndrome). I bet that is why I haven't been as sick this time around. My OB said it was fine to take my magnesium, cranberry and acid reflux pills the whole time I am pregnant.
Thanks for that info.
