I went to my regular doc today and she was asking me when my last period was and when I ovulated, etc to figure out how far along I am. I told her that my cycle was extra long due to being sick and that I ovulated a week late, so I am about to hit 4 weeks pregnant. She says I am about to hit 5 weeks pregnant based on my last period. I disagree. Any opinions? Here are my dates:

First day of last period: 1/2
Ovulation day: 1/23
First positive pregnancy test at 10DPO: 2/2

I say I am 3 weeks 6 days. She says I am 4 weeks 6 days. This all came about because I said I was holding my breath to make it past 5 weeks pregnant, which is where I tend to have my losses and she said I could breathe because I am going to be 5 weeks tomorrow. I think I still have another week of worry.

How far along am I really?

Many people do not know when they ovulate so it's traditionally done after LMP. I agree with you though and would go off of O date.

I tried to explain to her that I O'd late and even showed her my chart and also said that there is no way I am 5 weeks along because she ordered an HCG test for when I was 7DPO according to my chart and it was negative. She still said I am technically 5 weeks. It was a frustrating conversation. She said I would probably end up with an U/S for dating. I still say there is no question, I am 3 weeks 6 days. Arrrrggghhhh!

Ignore what they say. They used to always tell me I was further along than I was because I had delayed ovulation and my periods were six weeks apart. They were ALWAYS wrong and I was always closer to being right (didn't track ovulation).

How long is your cycle? This link (I'm sorry I don't remember off hand who gave this to me here!) Pregnancy Calculator may help you if you know your cycle length. I haven't had great luck with those ovulation tests, they seem like they say I'm ovulating all the time, so I like this better. When all else fails, I'd trust the doctor, but it does sound like you're very in tune with your body. I have my fingers crossed that no matter what the date is, that things will go well for you!

Most doctors (not all, but most) go from the the start of your last cycle, they have little interest in ovulation or the date of actual conception. They go from when a fresh egg is about to start its journey that will turn into the egg that is fertilized. Due dates aren't always terribly accurate but I wouldn't get too frustrated with this doctor, most doctors and due date calculators only care about the start of last menstrual cycle and that eggs start, not ovulation. It does seem strange since technically the first few weeks of pregnancy were prior to ovulation and conception. 4 weeks and 6 days is what most docs will tell ya....but based on your cycles I wouldn't bank on the delivery date they give ya.

It's a hard thing. According to my LMP, I'm due oct. 3, but I know I conceived on either the 5th or 7th.

I'd definitely go with your ovulation date. If I went on my LMP I'd be 5 weeks 4 days pregnant but in fact I have long cycles and I ovulated late and so I'm definitely more along the lines of 4 weeks 6 days.

Hey I like that your pregnancy due date site shows fetal age and how far the pregnancy is. What website is that?

Sorry forgot to thank souldonut. I LOVE that calcator. I ovulate at around days 8-10, always have. Curious to see what my ultrasound will show.

Oooooh! That calculator is great!! I just put in all of my stats, including the fact that my cycle is 36 days long this cycle if you go to 14DPO, which is my usual LP and it gave me a conception date of 1/24 and I calculate that I O'd on 1/23, so it is right on track. It also says I am 3 weeks, 5 days along, so right on track for that too.

Thanks so much!

docs usually go by the LMP no matter what. Even if they can see on a chart the day you Oed, the due date wheel is based on a 28 day cycle.

I agree with you on what you feel is right. It doesn't matter much really, if you are measuring way off on an U/S it would then be adjusted.
