I am so paranoid about cold and flu season and having a tiny newborn. My older son was born in the spring when cold and flu season was winding down and he spent his infancy outside in the warm summer here in Vermont. This baby will spend his/her first 6 months or cooped up inside in a slew of germs. Yikes!

Yes and no. I'm glad we are going for October and not December/January/February. I'm hoping that October will give us enough time to breastfeed the immunities in him/her and the sick season really won't be too much of a bother.

I am gonna miss not having the baby out during the summer. My babies always loved walks.

Yes and no. The flu season really doesn't get that bad in Hawaii, but we will be flying to Texas for a month or so when the baby is about a month old. I am just hoping, like Christine said, that the baby has gotten enough immunities from my breast milk by then that it won't be as bad an issue.

Yes, that is true about breastmilk and immunities. We will be nursing and I am hoping and praying that my little one will be as protected as can be. Still a bit nervous though!

We will also be flying to Germany in December or January to see the grandparents. That will be nerve wracking!

So it makes you feel a little better, my 1st was a July baby. I exclusively BF for 5 months before supplementing cereal. Around that same time DH and I both got the flu for almost 2 weeks straight. She didn't catch it at all, not even a sniffle! She would be happily playing in her jumperoo giggling away while DH and I puked our guts. lol! After that I swore by breastmilk!

No, I'm not worried. I have a Dec baby and Jan baby, neither had any issues so hopefully this one won't either (although it's 3 bigger brothers will be bringing lots of crud home from school I'm sure!).

Thanks for all of the stories of babies doing great through the cold and flu season. Christine, that sounds so horrible for you and your DH, but so glad your little one flew through with ease!

I am kind of worried, especially since we will probably already have snow on the ground by the time this baby is born. Now that is a depressing thought!

I'm not worried. DD1 was born October 11 and DS was born February 5 and they had no more or less issues than my July baby.

Not worried, but only because I survived Savannah being a late Nov baby in the midst of the crazy swine flu scare (which was scary for those of us who were pregnant as it was very serious if you caught it late stage in pregnancy). She did come down with bronchitis when she was about 3 1/2 months old (horrible) but there's not much you can do about it other than try to keep them away from people who are clearly ill.

Till you posted this the thought never even entered my mind Alex is an October baby and she never got sick till she was 21 months old and that was in July! I also think that it's breast milk that kept her healthy for so long. So I'm not really worried about this next baby being born in October.

I've glad I'm due early Oct, hopefully before snow flurries. I would be more worried going into labor in the winter in a snow storm.

YES!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a Pediatric ER Nurse... and expecting my first in October. The sickest babies we saw this year were the ones born in October the November thru January babies, just didnt seem to have been exposed to all that the October babies did. Breastfeeding and 2 month shot status didnt seem to matter

Yes and no. My little guy was just born in Oct - he is going on his 3rd cold in as many months. It doesn't seem to bother him much... and I was expecting him to get sick since his sister is in daycare and brings EVERYTHING home.

A few days after he was born, gastro ran through the house, then went to the inlaws and my parents. The only one who escaped unscathed was Noah. So colds I can deal with.
