So I saw the doctor today. The did an ultrasound and found that I have a uterine condition. I cant remember what she said its called, but basically, instead of having one complete uterus, I have 2 half uterus. She said its a type of birth defect. My chances of m/c will be very high throughout the entire pregnancy, as is preterm birth, because there is only half the amount of room in there for the baby. Thats not the only bad news though. The fetus is implanted in the right side of my uterus(s) in a weird place, and they couldnt tell if its ectopic or just ouside the tube, or half in and half out. They did lab work today, and I have to do more Friday. The doctor will tell me sometime next week if the pregnancy is even viable since they couldnt see a heartbeat either. Im so heartbroken. And I feel aweful getting all this bad news on DH birthday. I dont even know what to do with myself right now...

T & P

My MIL has two of everything, or she did. Two vaginae, two cervix, two uterus... She had never had a miscarriage, and she had two healthy children. She had another condition as well... pregnancy brain... what's it called when your lining doesn't shed properly and you have scar tissue? She had that. She had a hysterectomy after baby #2.

Oh my goodness. I am so sorry to hear that. I can't believe that is something a normal gyno appointment would have never picked up, but I guess they can only tell on the u/s. I will keep my fingers crossed that this pregnancy will develop in the right place and make it long enough. Take care and lots of hugs.

oh sweetie i'm so sorry, that's a lot of info to get all at once. A bicornuate uterus doesn't mean that you can't have a baby! You can. It's a higher risk pregnancy, meaning you need to be followed by a perinatologist, and watched closely that's all. They usually do c-sections to avoid labor. Because the space is smaller for the baby to grow and move around (since uterus split in half) there are risks for pre-term labor since it gets a bit cramped in there quicker.. but you would be monitored closely and they'd closely care for you and the baby. Hang in there, I hope they figure out quickly if there's proper implantation, I know it's stressful, but you will be OK.

Just lurking, but I had to respond.

Did your doctor say you have one uterus that is split in half? or two seperate ones that are not joined at all?

My mother had a bicornuate uterus, meaning her uterus was split in the middle. There are different severities of how divided a uterus is, but in most cases, you can have children without an issue.

In my mom's case, she did have trouble conceiving, but after a D&C, she conceived me and 2 years later, my brother. She carried us to about 38 weeks. We were a bit smaller because we had less room to grow due to the uterus being split, but other than that, we were healthy and fine! She had less problems with her pregnancy than I did and I have a normal uterus! lol

Try not to stress. MANY women have successful, problem-free pregnancies with a bicornuate uterus! ..and on the flip-side, many women with a normal uterus have complications! I would see if you could see another doctor for another opinion on how severe your case is.
