I have my first appointment on March 5 - this was technically supposed to be my first ultrasound and pregnancy confirmation appointment. Since I had to have an ultrasound last week for precautionary reasons, they obviously don't need to confirm a pregnancy. However, I am still having my ultrasound and I assume meeting with a doctor.
Are there any questions that you ladies recommend I ask while I'm there? Anything you wish YOU would have remembered to ask at your first appointment? I want to make sure I leave there feeling informed, and I am one to forget things while I'm actually at my appointment. I'm trying to make a quick list of things I have questions on!
Let's see...questions I had for my Dr at my first appointment -
since I am a lot older this time around, what specific tests/US did he recommend? Importance of these tests? Mandatory?
What foods etc. to avoid?
What vitamins/prenatals to take?
I've been pregnant twice before so none of this was new to me. At my next appointment next Wednesday I want to talk to him some ore about my bloodwork (which came back fine), the NT scan (whether I should have it done or not), bloodwork/test to test for Down Syndrome etc...), when I should plan to see my OB for my ultrasound between 16 and 20 weeks, how late I can fly to Europe in my pregnancy, etc. I am also going to ask if he'll try to listen for the heartbeat, since they normally don't start that until 12 weeks and I'll only be 10 1/2 weeks, but I really don't want to have to wait until my next appointment at almost 15 weeks!
Since all this talk on JM about feeling the uterus, I am also going to ask him where I can feel my uterus.
Think about your lifestyle. Is there anything that you wonder if you should do or what your limits should be? I.e. exercise, caffeine, etc.
Do they have a triage nurse if you have a question or problem or do you have to wait until the doctor is available to call you back?
How are lab results communicated?
When will you expect to have routine ultrasounds?
Confirm what hospital they deliver at.
If you take any prescription meds or over the counter meds, are they ok with you continuing with them.
