So here is my predicament. My mom is here until Tues, 9 April. She lives in Washington State and only comes once a year to year and a half. She is DYING to know the gender of this baby. The elective 3D/4D place says you have to be 16 weeks. I was thinking of making an appt for next Monday (I will be exactly 15 weeks according to dating scan, and 15w5d according to LMP) and saying I'm 16 weeks just for a chance to find out gender. Is that really bad? WWYD? I would love for my mom to be there, and see the baby and find out with me, but I would feel bad for lying to get the appt.

***Update*** So last night I submitted an appt request on their website. They wrote back today and said they had a Sunday appt or a Monday 5:30pm appt.,My mom leaves early Tues, so I wrote back and said "I would like Sunday, but I wont be 16 weeks" and she said it was OK, just to bring in a prior u/s or something from doc office and to drink a TON of water 3 days leading up. Not for the full bladder, but for clear amniotic fluid. She said since I'm early, she couldn't stress water enough!! I am so freakin' excited!!!!

I would probably consider doing it.

There's a chance that you could find out anyway because some places really do start doing gender scans at 15 weeks - I'm pretty sure the 16 week thing would be an extra buffer to make sure that they can tell a boy from a girl.

I don't think it is a big deal to stretch the truth a little bit about your dates so that your mom can be there. I think the 16 week minimum is mainly there for your protection so that you don't waste your money on an ultrasound when it is too early for them to see anything. If you aren't able to find out the gender before your mom leaves, you could always include her via skype or something similar. I looked into doing a 4d ultrasound and I noticed the place here mentioned on their site that they have all the equipment hooked up so that others can even view your ultrasound live on the web as it happens!

The place I went to last time did them at 15 weeks--it was only 2D and it was wrong for me, but I was within their recommended gestation. I was around 15.2.
As long as they do 3D, you should be fine, calculate your due date, so you don't have to stop and think when they ask. Being of a few days early is ok, but they will be able to tell how far you are based off the measurements. If they say a anything, say the ultrasound due date has been a few days of, but your doctor/midwife decided to keep your original due date.
Make sure they get at least 2 good shots before confirming... unless the first image they get shows the gender without a doubt.
The worst that could happen is that they can't be sure of the gender... but at least you're mom would get to see baby even if you don't find out the gender.

Perhaps you could call them before hand and let them know of the situation? Would your doctor's office be willing to do a scan for you? Probably more expensive though...

It's totally possible to find out the gender that early. I'd just hate for you to get on the table and them not willing to do it because you wouldn't be their required gestation.

If you're paying for it, sure. They're getting paid regardless. I wouldn't feel bad either because I'm sure the 16 week thing is just to cover their butts.

I bet if you called and explained your situation, they would do it. Technically you are 2 days shy...maybe they just wouldn't "guarantee " you'd get the gender shot.

I'd do it! No big deal, it's just a few days difference if you go by LMP. I'm sure they would still do it even if you were honest about how far along you are.
