Went in for my 13 week appointment, had some blood work done, everything was going fine. Until she pulled out the Doppler. Now, I have one at home and use it quite often and almost ALWAYS find the h/b within a minute or two. So, the OB is looking and looking and looking. Eventually she asks me where I usually find the h/b, so I showed her, went over the entire area for 5 minutes, and nothing.

She leaves the room and comes back with the u/s machine. While the machine was warming up, she palpitated my uterus and asked if I was SURE I was only 13 weeks. I said yes, and that 13 weeks was my last measurement, a week ahead of my dates, which are pretty spot on.

Turns out the reason she couldn't find the h/b was because baby as an inch, maybe only a tad more below my belly button!! I had been picking up the heartbeat just above the hairline a few days ago! Apparently C/S moms sometimes have a uterus that doesn't quite shrink back into the pelvis completely. So if youre a c/s mom and can't find a h/b, look higher! This also confirmed that I was feeling movement, even though I thought it was gas because it was too high to be baby lol.

Got a quick u/s to see baby jumping and squirming around and looking great. Gender/Anatomy u/s is scheduled for May 10th at 2:30!!!!!!!!!

So that explains it! I had a big time scare the other day when the midwife wouldn't find the HB - she was looking way down near the hairline, but eventually found it about an inch below my belly button - I had no clue that this had anything to do with previous c-sections though...This is also what confirmed movement 100% for me - because it was up higher than I thought it should be, I was writing a lot of this off as gas too.

I was actually concerned, but she reassured me that it would be fine, especially come delivery.

Glad you got to see your baby moving. And thanks for the heads up, I'm a c/s mama so I'll keep that in mind.

YAY! May 10th? That doesn't seem so far away! Do you have gender preferance?

Since this our last baby, I am hoping for a girl, but I don't think I would too much gender disappointment. DH on the other hand, only refers to the baby as "he or him" and will not budge on the idea that this baby is a boy. He will have the gender disappointment lol.

I have also had this scare recently. I had a c/s with my twins and never considered this a possibility. Everytime at my OB's they have also sent me panicked to the u/s room only to find a very active little baby. Which is such a relief. Thanks for sharing this tidbit of information!

Lol I know what you mean about no gender disappointment with us and definitely some with the DHs. DH wants another boy and, yes, it'd be really nice, but I could go either way. Just as long as baby is happy and healthy, I'll be a happy mama.
