Well first off, I'm venting here tonight, but then I'm not venting anymore until tomorrow! My baby's 2nd birthday is today so we will have some good family time!
I am desperately hoping to go part time (teaching) next year and really got my hopes up because the K teacher told me that they always are looking for PT kindergarten teachers around the district. I emailed HR like 3-4 weeks ago, apparently the person I emailed was the wrong one, so she forwarded the email to the correct person. (Head of HR) Well he hasn't gotten back to me and it's been awhile so I emailed again today. I did not like his response. Basically he said that you cannot be approved to go part time unless there are current listed part time positions. And if there does come one, I have to resign my position and do the hiring process again. Whhhhhaaaaa??? People move buildings ALL the time! Is he talking about the whole hiring process as in with the district and then with the school? Or just that I'd have to interview with the potential P.
I am so so so disappointed and heartbroken. I really want to be home part time and we just figured out how we could swing it financially. I'm wondering if they do need PT K teachers usually, but they probably don't know until close to school because I'm betting the numbers sway quite a bit. But then I would totally be throwing my team to the wolves if I were to jump on something a couple of weeks before school, because they'd only have a couple of weeks to find someone to replace me!
GRRR GRR GRR. Alright, I'm letting it go for right now. Going to enjoy Sawyer and his 2 ness for the night. THanks for listening!!
You are right about them not knowing the how many kindergarten teachers they will need until closer to the start of the school year. We always had to either hire or move a teacher to another grade the first few weeks of school when I taught kindergarten. They don't do part time teachers here so I don't have much advice about that. It doesn't sound right that you should have to resign and then apply for a job though.
