Does anyone else love the documentary like I do? I bought it while pregnant with #2 and found it so inspirational. I watched it a couple more times while pregnant and during labor. If you havent seen it, it's on Netflix. It's a must see.

I saw and appreciate a lot of it, but at the same time I feel parts are misinformed. I wouldn't mind trying a midwife in a hospital setting with all the regular tests OB's normally give, but there aren't any around here. Luckily my doctor is pretty into people going natural. I guess. I asked if I could labor naturally and have IV meds when it was time to push. She said no. =P

I delivered sitting up last time, that seems to be the position of choice at this hospital. Not laying down is nice!

The second is a series. More on The Business of Being Born? I think that's it. 4 episodes or so. Same opinion for that one as the first. There were good parts. You get to see ladies birthing, the different positions. Sad parts where it sometimes didn't work out. The lady from Eagle Eye was on there, and hers didn't work. I felt bad for her. Willow from Buffy was there, and she was funny. Some stuff I felt was misinformation again, but it was mostly ladies talking about theories or beliefs.

I liked it and felt it was a good starting point, but there are other less known documentaries that I felt were better about the topic. I am not remembering the name of the one that I reeeally like (that wonderful pregnancy brain again!) but it was on Netflix as well. If you watch the Business of Being Born movies on it, you will probably have a few others pop up in your recommendations lists, or just check out their documentaries section. One of the reasons I like Netflix and keep paying money every month is because I love their documentary section! There are a lot of good ones not related to birth as well, but have affected the way I parent.

I've never seen it personally, but I've heard a lot about it.
I am very lucky that where I deliver they are very focused on being intervention free. My last delivery needed intervention, but I felt informed and respected the entire time, so IMO the birth still went very well

I really like it, I especially like that they weren't scared to show a hb that had to end in a transfer during the first documentary. That made me feel that they weren't trying to put it on this pedestal and know that in some situations it just can't work out.

It was informative, but I felt that it was a bit repeatitive in parts- like they were saying the same thing over and over. Helped me gain some perspective though.

I have seen it. I wished I could have a homebirth, but my hospital births have not been horrible.

I liked it because it showed a very different perspective. I didn't like all of it though - Ricki Lake isn't exactly a doctor, you know? I remember her from all those John Waters' movies and Dancing with the Stars. I think the documentary is a good starting point though, that's for sure.

I saw it and liked it, but would not consider a home birth. The hospital is for me and I had great medically induced births both times with no issues. Plus I love being taken care of for two days by nurses

Ok, I watched it. I feel like I was already on the fence about natural birth, and now I'm opening up my options. There's a birthing center not far from me in an old victorian home attached to a hospital that I'm going to check out. I LOVE my OB though, so I don't know if I could leave her. I wish I could have her go to the hospital of my choosing.

I watched it and enjoyed it. I was already set on natural birth when I came across it on Netflix, so it basically reinforced my decision. It is very one-sided, but there's a lot of interesting information to take in!
