Our 5 year anniversary is moving up next month. We usually go out to a fancy dinner to celebrate but feel like we should do something more since it is 5 years... Any ideas? We were thinking a night in a fancy hotel or something, but that's he extent of our idea.

What have you done for your anniversaries?

husband and i have tried to make a point of an 'annual honeymoon' - we're on the 3rd one this year. last year we did san francisco (sort of a staycation), and the year before that was our big europe trip (actual honeymoon).

We haven't picked a destination yet, but we're looking at Hawaii, Europe again (unlikely but not impossible) and a road trip tour of the Southwest (husband hasn't seen it yet, really).

Next year will test our resolve to keep up this tradition lol.

I don't really get into hotels as a luxury thing in and of themselves - to me it just feels like a way to spend gratuitous money on something I already have access to in the area (comfortable housing) and I'm a bit too thrifty to enjoy it, but different strokes and all that.

I don't know where you live, so it's hard for me to suggest specific short-term adventures. If it were me, I would be looking for a unique experience to have locally - doing something I've never done before will always stand out as a memory. Dinner is a given. Maybe if you can do a day trip somewhere, a nice bed and breakfast would hit the spot? Or is camping an option in your area? Darts at a dartboard here.

Our 5th is coming up too. We used to take a vacation every year for our anniversary but our money situation is much different since I became a SAHM.

For birthdays and Vday we have been doing an all day thing since Sawyer was born. We might go paddle boarding, kayaking, or to a a meditation labyrinth and then out to eat. It's a luxury to have a whole day together now.

We are in Columbus, Ohio. Thanks for the ideas! I've neve r spent a night away from Sawyer before, so I am not planning on doing more than a night (possibly 2) away. I did check into some b and bs around the area and we might end up doing something like that! I hoping for something with a big whirlpool tub! There's a place an hour away that's beautiful with tons of cabins. But we have been there in the past so I'm not sure...

We didn't do anything for our 5th besides going out to dinner. For our 10th we took a weekend trip to the beach without the kiddos. We may do the same thing for our 15th in 2015. Not really sure yet.

We went away, just for one night in December for our 8th. Honestly, it was heaven.
We had long, slow meals, we shopped, stayed up late, slept late. We went to a beach resort about 2 hours away and my parents kept the kids.

We pretty much only get away for dinner and movie. We are boring like that. Not that we wouldn't love to do more, it just always seems that we have a lack of funds when September comes around. I'm really hoping that for our 10 year we can go somewhere really nice. We've got 3 years to plan!

I definitely vote for a B&B. How about a minor league baseball game? Do you guys have one? We aren't really baseball fans, but a nice minor league game can be fun!

Lake Erie up in Connacht (Jeeze I can't spell) Ohio. We have a cottage up there right on Lake Erie. It's one of my favorite places I've ever been to. So calm, tranquil and peaceful. It really puts me at one with nature and in the right state of mind when I'm losing it. Our cottage is surrounded by judges and other officials who own their land though so I'm not sure if there's rentals, but there should be, I think.

We went to King's island, Cincinatti. Its not exactly a romantic getaway, but that trip was memorable & fun especially the water park & a the weather is perfect for that! I only thought of this since it's so close to you.

Please share some good ideas. Our 2nd anniversary is coming up and with the 2nd baby on the way I'm sure our plans will be small. Last year we managed a 20 minute dinner by ourselves while grandma watched our 3 week old!

One year we went to Jamaica and stayed for a couple days at the place we got married, and then a few more at a new place in a quieter part of the island. It was awesome! Last year we didn't celebrate that night.. I actually catered/hosted a work event for DH at our house. Lol.

I think you should go to a B&B - we did that a couple times to celebrate things and it was so nice. So nice that we ended up falling in love with the town and bought a house here, haha.

I'm not too much help, most we have ever done is dinner and a movie as well!

This year our 12th anniversary will be on OCT 5th, so I will either be overdue and huge or have a newborn! Won't be doing much!
