Now that my hair is a little longer, I don't get it colored as often. I get heavy highlights as of late, but haven't since I got pregnant (actually got it done last when I was like 3 weeks preggo). I plan to get it redone in a couple months or right before my baby shower (might have to give in before then).

Highlights are better than full on dye sitting on your scalp, but I had my hair colored with previous pregnancies and it never did any harm. They say you are supposed to avoid it during the first trimester, but even then I know some women who think that is just bullocks as well.

I say go for the highlights since it doesn't really touch your scalp much and you're in your second trimester.

I get it done as needed! I have yet to see any convincing evidence that it's in any way harmful and you'll feel better after a touch up!

I've heard recently that hair dye is not as much of a concern as in the past. And highlighting is better than all-over dye since it doesn't touch your scalp. Also, pregnant hair dressers work with that stuff all through their pregnancy. I got my hair highlighted a month ago, and I probably will once or twice more. You should check with your doctor if you have doubts, but this random internet person says don't worry too much.

I need my hair coloured, I have a ton of grey showing through now as I haven't had my hair done since becoming pregnant. I'm wondering If i should get mine done soon, seeing as I'm in the 2nd trimester now.

I'm going Friday!
When you get highlights, the foil helps keep it away from your scalp so it isn't something that is being absorbed in your skin while the color processes.

Hmm, my doc said that the hair color was fine, but the bleach wasn't... Would that be the highlights? I don't get highlights, so not sure, but I do get my color done.

Before I found out I was pregnant I dyed my hair twice and bleached it myself (also tried a little purple on the underside) Oops! Who knew being pregnant could make dying your own hair weird? (only my roots were getting dyed a weird color...)
I think it will be fine.

I do my color every 6w. I wouldn't worry. I do use a deposit-only, so there's no ammonia.

My doctor's office gives hair dye the thumbs up. Highlighting seems ok because they keep the foils slightly off your scalp. You could go to an Aveda salon or a place that has greener hair dyes, if that eases your mind a little.

Dittoing everyone else. My doc said ok, so I did mine. I used all over, deposit only, but foiling should be fine too. I'd worry more about ventilation. Your hair may react differently, is all.

My doctor also said it is okay, and the real concern is breathing in the chemicals. He said as long as the room is well ventilated or a larger open room, you are good to go.

I just dyed my hair on Saturday. I never had a problem with it in the past though.

I just had my hair done the other day. I have a family friend who owns a hair salon an she gives us free salon benefits for the family since I babysit for her She wanted me to get it down since it had been a couple of months. She dyed and highlighted together. I've even permed my hair during the first trimester with my oldest but that was 10 years ago before they told you to wait. Everything has turned out ok so far

I have done it.

As long as the dye/chemicals don't touch your skin its suppose to be fine. Highlights usually do not touch the skin.
