I found out this morning that there is a place in the city that does private ultrasounds for a charge of 120$ before 16 weeks and a charge of 200$ after 16 weeks.
I am seriously considering this since I just can't wait until my 21 week appointment.
My question is, have any of you had a scan this early to determine gender and were they accurate?

I'm having mine at 15 weeks and 5 days. I remember someone posted an article on here (a long time ago) that had accuracy rates on it. It is something like 98% effective after 14 weeks. My ultrasound place said the reason they don't promise gender before 16 weeks is because usually your due date is based on your LMP, and women RARELY ovulate on the supposedly average 14th day (although that is exactly the day I ovulated haha). She said they use a two week buffer in case some people's due dates are off. If you are sure of your dates, and an early ultrasound was on cue with your due date, they should be able to accurately predict gender at 15 weeks (as long as the baby is in good position). However, I have heard at least one mom on here say her baby was supposed to be a girl and he came out a boy not sure how early her ultrasound was though!

I know you are excited!
I'm having mine next Friday. I'll be 15 weeks 3 days.
If they aren't sure about the gender, my place brings you back the next week to check again.
I can't wait!

When I did my 3D scan at UC, their invoice just said ultrasound, so I was able to submit it for my private insurance and got my $ back.... If you have insurance through the hospital or through your husband...submit the invoice!!!

I'm having an ultrasound this Friday and I'll be 15 weeks. It's supposed to be to check on my cyst, but I'm hoping I get the same super nice tech as before and that she'll take a peek. Hopefully we'll get a preview. If so, I'll definitely be posting about it.

I would go for it. I don't want to wait either. I wish our gender u/s place was closer, I would do it now and I am 15 weeks.

I personally would rather save the money and get stuff I need for the baby later on, not worth knowing a few weeks early for me.
