I haven't worked outside of the home in about 6 years, and tomorrow is my first day of work! I mentioned a while back about working at a school and it not working out. Well the principal called me this afternoon and literally begged me to do one class. I could even bring my infant! lol
It's just one class a day, five days a week, salary. I'm excited and reserved. I'll be teaching 11th, and they haven't had an art class before. If they didn't need the half credit for college, the school wouldn't even offer it. Far cry from the 4 years of it I could have gotten in high school. I am wondering if it will be Art Cliff Notes. It takes a while to teach techniques, and I am going to be glossing over them.
Hopefully I won't be starting with too many basics. I was just there 3 weeks ago dealing with 8th graders that didn't know where the 3/4 inch mark on a ruler was. I am expecting the 11th graders have worked a ruler at least once. I am sort of expecting them to know the answer to blue + yellow. I am not expecting them to know how to use a pencil like an artist.
Wish me luck. I want these guys to take away more than a credit from this class!
Oh, gosh. First class went alright. I got to see where they were, and they were drawing at the level of 3rd graders. Well, all save a couple. One boy is very good at symmetry, and that is hard to do. One girl has a fairly good grasp on drawing comic characters. They have never had art.
