We just started rice this week as well, only gave it 2 times so far. I'm going to pick up the gerber oatmeal in the next few days and stick with that. Its less constipating too.

Does anyone happen to know why doctor recommend rice? vs trying oatmeal? We have had Jude on rice for over a week... just a little bit one time a day and it is really messing with his poop schedule. I think I may switch over to oatmeal instead.

I've heard rice was recommended as a first food for years because its gentler on the tummy & less risk of allergies. Then I heard you can start with oatmeal or rice. Then I heard you can start with any first food. I've always heard to start at 4 months. Then 4-6 months. Then 6 months. Bllaaaaah. My baby is 4 months. I started with oatmeal, he did well & we have moved on to bananas & pears. He loves them, taking them well & no tummy issues!

yeah, I was told to start between 4-6 months because it shows that it helps avoid childhood obesity (??). Start with rice for 3 weeks then move to veggies. Start with the light colored veggies and move to the darker green ones. Then do fruits.

I'm gonna switch to oatmeal though because poor baby is having a hard time with the rice. He loves to eat it though!

I don't know if its related to the rice cereal or not, but Christian has had diarrhea the past few days I've only given in every second day, a total of 3 times yet.

We did rice cereal with DS 1 and it constipated him so bad. We stopped it. We moved to Earth's Best Org Oatmeal.
We wait until about 5.5 months to do solids with DD.
The ped this time around said flat out wait until 6 months. I'll be starting with avocado or sweet potatoes. Can't wait.

Haven't started anything yet, but I had planned on just grinding up the oatmeal that I buy for myself for her.

Rice cereal plugs up Natania and makes her one unhappy constipated baby. So her pedi said to go with oatmeal....we've been using Gerber Oatmeal with no issues.

I did oatmeal first with my first DS and he did not like the taste but I think I remember it being fine on his tummy. He had texture issues but that was just him. Our pedi recommends rice first because it is gentler but I'm a little worried about the arsenic too and honestly I might just do a veggie first. Not sure yet.

Just got back from Logan's 4 month appointment, where we discussed starting him on solids (doctor said go ahead, anytime between now and 6 months is fine). Anywho, I asked her about the whole arsenic deal with rice cereal and she told me that it was a concern several years ago, but that they recalled all of it and now it is being made with stricter standards, and to not be concerned about arsenic. Not that my doctor knows everything, but just wanted to let you know what she said!
