So theres a place by us that will do elective ultrasounds as early as 6 weeks. A 2D ultrasound to hear the heart beat is only $40. I think I'm going to do it. I just can't stand waiting so long to even see the doctor and then even longer for an ultrasound. Anyone here go to one of these? Is it really possible to see or hear anything at 6 weeks? Any thoughts or opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks

I know its actually cheaper than the copay on a prescription ultrasound for me, granted they don't do any diagnostics there but for peace of mind to see a heart beat it sounds almost too good to be true. I just worry that 6 weeks is too early to see anything.

I've never been to one of those elective ones, I'm really lucky that my OB has a machine and gives me one whenever I want, but if she didn't I would totally do the elective for 40 dollars, though I think I would wait until 7 weeks, you'll for sure see something then.

I saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks. It was a transvaginal ultrasound. It's the earliest I've ever seen a heartbeat with any of my babies. If you think it will give you peace of mind, then do it!

I would think that at 6 weeks you would see the hb. I really want one of the 3D ultrasounds later on. I've never had one and they look so neat!

I had one done this time at 6w3d, at an elective place. They cant tell you the bpm, but you get to hear it and get a pic! Mine was $70. Still cheap, and your right, peace of mind.

I agree with all the ladies...the wait seems to be forevvvvver before your first appt and if it gives you peace of mind, it's worth every penny.

I would totally do it!!!!!!!

although I would wait until about 6 and a half weeks. I am only saying that b/c i went for one last friday and I was approx 5w6d and all they saw was the gestational sac and the yolk sac.... I was disappointed but they said its normal for this stage and a matter of 1 or 2 days makes a huge difference at this point! Just wanted to let you know my experience!!!

I just goggled this and the place where I found out the sex is now doing this. Wow, it hasn't been that long since I had my son and I'm shocked they'll do this now!!! It's $19 dollars but you have to be 8-13 weeks.

I would probably do it around 7 weeks, just in case you are measuring a few days behind.
