I had my first doctor's appointment this morning (YAY!). Al she really did was a urine test and a transvaginal ultrasound but we did get a nice shot of our little nugget I am 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant!

Here is my question...should I be concerned that we did not hear a heartbeat? The doctor said everything lookeed fine and right on track. She said there was fluttering but that it was too soon to hear a beartbeat.

But then I read other posts on here from people who are around the same number of weeks pregnant as I am and they have heard the heartbeat and know how many beats per minute. Should I be worried? Should I have pressed her more about hearing a heartbeat?

With my first pregnancy, we did not hear a heartbeat either, but saw the fluttering on the ultrasound. That was good enough for me and it was a great pregnancy! Congrats on the good appointment!!

I had my first ultrasound this past Monday and we didn't hear the heartbeat, but we saw it. The Doc said we would hear at the 12 week appointment. Everyone I talked to, including my MIL who was with me, said it's normal. Congrats on seeing your little nugget

I had an ultrasound done Mon the 18th my OB measured me at 6 1/2 weeks and the heartbeat was 126. We could see the flutter and then he measured right where the heart was fluttering and turned up the sound. Yesterday I was 7w 1d and the heartbeat was 156. Both were transvaginal u/s. I've heard it going both ways. Maybe it depends on the machine being used. I would not worry one bit, thinking back to me previous pregnancies I didn't get to hear it just see the flutter. Seeing is believing!

If you saw it fluttering, that is whats the most important! The machine most likely could not "sensor" the h/b for a reading, but that is normal for a dr.'s in house u/s. If it was a radiology u/s machine, they are more powered to sensor the h/b better this early. Congrats!

Don't worry about it. If the doctor was concerned then I would worry. Otherwise, I think it's just too early!! <3 I understand why you'd be worried though...I too freak out when I compare my pregnancy to others....Keep trying to stop that cuz we're all different!!

Congrats on the good appointment. I wouldn't worry too much. You will probably be able to hear it at your next appointment!

I think it depends on the machine used. That, and the heartbeat at 6w3d will change drastically between now and your next US. Maybe they're just wanting to wait to hear the stronger heartbeat. Seeing the flickering is a great sign!

Congrats on seeing the HB! I don't think its the norm to actually hear the HB that early- I had several early u/s with my YDD and never heard it, but I went in at 6w with this baby and not only saw it but we heard it too. I was shocked we got to see a HB that early, let alone hear it because a doppler can't even pick it up that early.

Yep totally depends on the machine being used. There are some really high quality ones that allow so much clarity. Most women get to see the HB around 6w but the US machine at my doc's doesn't allow for that kind of clarity until 7 weeks. Doesn't mean anything is wrong, just a different type of machine.
