I have an awful cough that's giving me an awful headache Are there any cough & cold meds that are safe during the first trimester? Everything on the list from my OB says not recommended during first trimester. I would love something to knock me out, but I know meds with alcohol are off limits so I guess that's out of the question Feeling sorry for myself tonight....

There isnt much. You can take very basic Robitussin for cough but it doesnt help much. My doctor sayd Sudafed for congestion is ok, but I dont like what Ive read so I decided not to take that risk. Im going through all this too trying to treat my allergies

you can use cough drops or vicks vapor rub

Ive got a sinus infection too, taking Sudafed PE and vicks vapor rub. I took Sudafed with my last two pregnancy's in the first trimester for sinus infections too. It does not help much unfortunately, but its all the dr. will let me take.

BTW, Even though I said I wasnt going to risk Sudafed, I think if I had a sinus infection that was causing me bad pain, I would take it. Doc says its ok.

Are there any natural remedies or essential oils that are safe and relieve congestion? I have a sore throat, ears and headache so I feel your pain.

I should clarify, Im taking regular Sudafed, NOT the PE. Like I said though, it does not make much difference, barely takes the edge off the sinus congestion/pressure. Regular tylonel helps the pain the most. Its the stuffieness that is driving me mad! Nothing is helping me either. I remember getting this 2 or 3 times last baby, and it sucked as well......not much for us out there to take

At least Sudafed would clear up my head, which should keep the cold from getting worse. Tylenol has never worked for me - only Advil - for headaches, but I guess there's no choice. Those saline nasal sprays also don't do anything, so I am still using Dristan to breath! I miss the days of popping 2 Tylenol Sinus and passing out

My doctor's list says Sudafed, Tylenol Cold, Tylenol Sinus, Tylenol Allergy, Mucinex, Theraflu, Dayquil, Claritin D, and Zyrtec D.

You can try to use saline and/or a neti pot to help with your sinuses. I'm suffering through allergies right now so I've been running an air purifier non-stop and it's helped a little. Hope you all feel better. I've been there and it stinks!

You can try the Netti Pot. A friend of mine used it when she was stuffed up while pregnant.

I thought we couldn't take anything with the decongestant in it, like claritin-d or zyrtec-d. Now that I'm looking it up, I think we can, but not in the first trimester.

I bought some plain Robitussin, just an expectorant. Hopefully it will do something!
