I can't find the heartbeat no matter what I do! I am a bigger girl so that probably has something to do with it. But I have been pressing firmly and using lots of gel. It is starting to freak me out. I have an appt. on Tuesday but I'd really like to find the heartbeat. I am pressing where the doctor found it before.

I've heard to have some food in your belly and a full bladder. I dont have any trouble but I know where baby is and I'm petite. Keep trying because baby could be moving around a lot. I hope you find it soon!

When I first began trying to find the hb I couldn't then I tried with a very full bladder and BOOM there it was! I hope that helps you as well. It's gotten easier the further along I get.

The doctor was having to chase Levi at my last appointment. He kept moving every time the doppler got close. You might just have a dancer!

I'm petite and usually can find it quick but sometimes it is just hiding. I never use any gel (oops) it works best if I am laying flat and very still. Sometimes I just have to adjust the driection of the wand and point it down toward my crotch more (sorry dont know how to describe it)

No real trouble here, but the probe has to be in the exact right spot otherwise you can't pick up anything. I move the probe really slowly & stop for a second or two in each spot then move it slightly to one side or the other.
I pick up this bubs heart beat almost right in the centre about 1/2 way between my belly button & my pubis.

Thanks everyone! I think I just have to be patient and move slower with the wand. I might have hubby help me. Plus I have an appointment on Tuesday so I'll let the doctor find it and then copy what she does. It's just nerve wracking cause I want everything to be OK.

Now that I know where they are, I can usually find them, but they do move a lot right now so even if I have the perfect location, a few seconds later I'll lose it because they'll move! I'm sure it's fine - definitely hardest to find the first few times!

Even my midwife couldn't get my baby's heartbeat on Wednesday! We heard it for a second, and then baby scooted away. She could hear it behind my own heartbeat for a few more seconds but I couldn't hear it personally, and then baby moved again and she couldn't find it again. The babies are still so small right now and have a lot of room to move around. I'd just wait until your doctor finds it and then you'll have a better idea of where to look. That worked for me with my first. I tried for like a week and couldn't find it, then my OB found it at my appointment and I went home and put the doppler in the same spot she did and there it was! I could always find it after that

This was the dream I had last night! I dreamed that we had a Doppler and I couldn't find the heartbeat at all - which freaked me out a little.
In spite of the dream, I can't wait to get my friends Doppler after she pops her baby out (she's due in next couple weeks). Then I'll get to listen as long as I want - provided I can find it!

The nurse couldn't find one of the babies yesterday and went to get the doc. He came in and found both in 15 secs. I'd just wait for the doc b4 you try looking on your own again. And my babies would only let him listen for a few secs b4 kicking and moving away.

When I went for my appt last week the nurse had trouble finding it. She kept going directly in the center of my lower ab. She found the heartbeat when she went more to the left. I could feel that the baby was there and was just about to tell her so as she moved the doppler that way any way. My poor DH was starting to get concerned.

Glad you were able to find it! It is hard at first, I can only catch baby for a few seconds because he/she is a mover!
