This is sort of a rudimentary question, but I have heard conflicting advice. When changes diapers, do you put diaper cream on baby's bottom after every change or only when they have a rash?

We used Burt's Bees powder after every change, which helped keep things dry.

Only used an ointment when there was a rash, which was once with our first when she had a bad reaction to the organic BGs.

I think it depends on the baby. I wouldn't start out doing it, but you might need to.

I do it for rash or when they have antibiotics. My second and third kiddos had a lot of ear infections as babies (and eventually both got tubes) and the antibiotics really messed up their digestive tract. Some babies get diarrhea from teething too-the excess saliva changes things too.

My DD always had a rush.. poor girl.. would be giving her air time all the time and no diapers when at home. Her skin was sooo sensitive.
I learned through trial and error.. Best is to wash the babys bum with water.. I carried her to the sink and rinsed it.. Then I would just place a soft cloth on her bum and let it absorb the remaining water (no rubbing) and air dry for a minute or two..
The more powders and products I used on her the more irritated it would get so water worked best for her.

Only a rash usually but like a PP said some babies need it more often if they are sensitive to the moisture!
