I got a plugged duct in the night. I took one of my hospital size Motrin and was able to release it a couple hrs later. I finally got it cleared and got 2 extra oz from that side. I thought I was being so careful getting everything cleared out while I pump. I was scared there for a bit as i don't think my girls are strong enough to clear a plugged duct yet and I couldn't get the pump to clear it all morning. I was really scared that it would turn into mastitis. The NICU mom next to us was just diagnosed with it and is really sick.

It was on the underside of my breast. I usually get one on the top once or twice a kid. Always the same spot. I have to hang myself upside down on the bed so babies chin points to my chin to release it. I wonder if the pump did this some how. I'm using 8 oz bottles and they get heavy when full. I'm pumping tons! I got 15 oz this morning with a plugged duct.
Position can definitely contribute. Also, FYI for the future if this happens again....you can hand express to get the clog out. Doing it while either submerging your breast in hot water in a bath or letting hot water run on it in a shower really helps get it out quicker. I remember this happening to me a few times with my other kids and sometimes you really have to work at it to get things flowing properly again...especially if its a particularly bad one!
