I'm going for mine on Friday at a perinatologist (don't think that's spelled right)
I will be just about 13 weeks (12 weeks and 5 days to be exact)
Would they be able to guess? Or does it all depend on the position of the baby?

So curious!

At about 13 weeks (fetal age of 11 weeks) both males and females have 'outies'. Depending on the angle of the protrusion and the sensistivity of the machine they may be able to tell, but shouldn't give you more than a 75% assurance.

Embryo Development external genital sex organs - angle of the dangle boy or girl ultrasound gender scan - Baby2see You can see on this site how very similar the external genetalia are at this point. And that you can only see a "50/50" chance, which is really statistically insignificant..lol

I think it depends on the tech too. I know a friend of mine always finds out the gender at her NT scan. Her tech has a great record for being able to tell accurately. But I also second Nutmeg's info.

I think it's really depends on the machine and the tech. My ob's machine doesnt seem as good as ours at work. And the tech wouldn't even go down in that area to look. She measured head to rump and the neck that is all.
But last week at 12 weeks it def looked like a boy. The cord was out of the way. This week at 13 on the dot it looked like a girl with the three lines. But the cord was in the way so we have to do it again tomorrow. The tech at work has an awesome record but doesn't usually say before 14 weeks. I was shocked she told me last week.

I asked at mine too and she said she would not even look because it was too early. And I think for me that is a good thing because I wouldnt want to get excited and start calling the baby its name to then later find out its not what we were told.

Well, according to the angle of the dangle mine is a girl.....

My doc was VERY confident about it.....she does these scans all day long and has had over 7 years of practice.....

I also saw those 3 white lines that are supposed to show the girl parts.....

I got a photo, but my laptop cannot detect my scanner/printer so I can't download it right now.....

I don't say she can't be wrong, but right now, I really like the thought of having a daughter one day !!!!
