So Andrea's earring question got me thinking about something else...

If your baby is a boy, will you have him circumcised? Why or why not??

No. I see no reason that I should make that decision for my child. If I do have a male child, he should be able to make that decision on his own.

oh gosh fair warning this is a HEATED topic on most mommy boards...anyways no that is another thing we believe in waiting until our son decides he wants it. his dad is circumcised and the dr did a botched job. he wishes his parents had let him make that choice as an adult.

Yes, our son now is and I feel well let our next son get it done as well if we have a boy.

No. If this baby is a boy, he will not be cut. DF is not and I prefer it that way
I see no reason unless you are Jewish; even then, I don't support it.

Really?? I suppose that shouldn't surprise me, but I guess to me it's just one of those personal decision things. We haven't decided but we're leaning toward not doing it... I have to admit that it's at least partially because I hate the thought of putting my little guy through that. I'm just interested in seeing what everyone thinks/feels about it...

We will. I have seen several male patients who were not circumcised end up with some pretty nasty infections and needing to get it done as an adult. I know not every uncirced male will get an infection and most keep it clean, but that's just my reason and I understand that not everyone is going to agree with that reason. I may end up changing my mind when the time comes though. This decision is not set in stone for us.

We definitely will. We are jewish and it is a central part of our religion so it's never occurred to me not to do it. My brother feels very strongly against it, and thinks religion is a silly reason, but in my mind customs and traditions make us who we are, so if for no other reason, if we have a second son he will be circumsized. But i totally respect anyone elses desires to not do it.

Yeah I've noticed CIO, breastfeeding and formula feeding and circ are all hot topics.

No. Dh is bot circumcised.
My first son was and we had issues from the surgery.
My thoughts are... If you keep it clean, it won't get infected.
There is a reason why it's made that way. Any lady married to an uncut man probably understands that.
I've been with both cut and uncut. And hands down uncut is better.
It's the natural way to be and I see no reason to butcher any body part of my child.
Ive heard way too many horror stories about those surgeries and I've seen first hand what can happen.
Aside from the issues my ds had with the surgery, it left some sort of permanent red mark on the tip of his penis. It came up after the surgery and hes 9 and still has it I'm sure.

If they were meant to be cut, then why aren't they born that way?

( my outlook)

Also..I researched a lot on the purpose of circ.
The answer I mostly got was that it was to deter masturbation.
Uncut men don't need lotion or any lubricant to masturbate.
And as far as I know cut men do. ( unless they are into chafing. Lol)

I wouldn't cut my kid to deter masturbation.
I'm pretty sure when he's of age he will do it anyway?
I think a lot of people are very misinformed as to why circ is suggested so much and why people think it's necessary. If it were researched a bit more it might be decided against more.

I think a lot of ppl do it just so their kids "fit in" personally.

Just curious.
I had always heard that the circumcision was done at a certain time for Jewish people. Later in life.
So do you have it done at birth or is it dome during a religious ceremony?
I've always been curious how that works.

Both of my boys were circumsized....

I am from Germany and the majority of men there are NOT cs.....

From the sexual aspect... ....a cs penis is much more clean than an un-cs one....I speak of experience !!!!!!! ....it's more attractive looking and supposedly be more sensitive during sex....

I've had a lot of yeast infections from my ex-fiance (un-cs) and he showered EVERY time before sex, but it just wasn't good enough I guess....

Another very important point to me is that their dad is cs and I don't want them to feel different from him (and other kids later on in gym class for instance)....

If this one is a boy I will have him cs too....

(Still hoping my NT-doc is right and it's a girl though )
