I'm starting to have a few people offer to loan me their maternity clothes. WHOOOO-HOOOO, I'm so excited about this as I really would rather spend money on paint for our new house we move into in a month, than on clothes.

BUT I need to a way to track who gave what so i can properly return this stuff later.

Any suggestions? a big photo collage? a list?
what's fast and easy!? and works?! LOL

What about sewing a couple of stitches into the labels. Different color for each person.

I was thinking of writing initials in the label, but the idea of stitching a different color for each person is even better and much more discreet!

When I borrowed I got different colored permanent markers. I put a dot on the label and used a different color for each person.
I also made a list of everything from each person so I'd know I gathered it all to return. I was a lot more OCD back then too though.

honestly no idea. I personally would never borrow.. if things are passed down to us, I'm ALLL FOR THAT but not borrow.. kids RUIN clothes and I totally would feel guilty if all my friends stuff was stained or whatnot.

I will only borrow from close friends, who won't be mad if something happens to an article of clothing. I would just make a list with descriptions of each item under each persons name... I'm too lazy to get out needle and thread to stitch colors into the tags

I would make a list. Sewing is not my thing but a list should be easy enough to keep track of.

Candice - I'm with you when it comes to handy-me-downs for the kids (with maternity clothes i think borrowing is fine). A friend had twins about 18 months ago and someone actually asked her for everything back when she got pregnant. My friend seriously had no idea who gave her what and with infants, so much was ruined. She'd never thought anyone would ask for kids clothese back! She ended up giving the friend some of it but was amazed that it was expected to be returned.

i don't think I dare stitch or marker up the labels since they are not mine. I don't want to be the reason they can't resell them later if they wish. One gals stuff is very, very nice and cute!! (So excited about that!)

guess i probably am stuck with making a list or photo collage...

To Candice: my kids are older, I don't have any in a stage where their fingers/hands get dirty and are all over me all of the time.

If you don't think you'll remember, I think I'd take a digital picture of each person's things so that when you're all done you can just look on your computer to be reminded of what belongs to who. (Whom?)

I would have no problem borrowing maternity clothes, and I have no problem borrowing kids' clothes! I also lend out my own things pretty freely. I understand that stuff happens, so I can't be unreasonable in my expectations for what is returned and in what condition, but I only lend to people I trust, and I only borrow from people I trust.

You can take the stitch out again to hand them back, that is what I meant.

I would just ask them if they cared if I marked them or stitched them. Just be honest and say another friend is lending you some stuff too and you don't want to mix it up. I know when I have loaned out my mat clothes I marked them myself for that exact reason. My neighbor and I have swapped back and forth a few times now!
