People keep asking me how many months I am, and I can never figure it out. According to the JM calendar, I am 125 days today, and I will be 18 weeks tomorrow. So does that make me 4 or 5 months pregnant? So confused, why can't everyone just go by weeks?

20wks is 5mo, so you are 4mo 2wks pregnant and will be 5mo when you hit 20wks

I agree with Summer completely that 20 weeks is COMPLETED 5 months and that's what people should reference. It makes sense. However, according to the book "Your Pregnancy Week by Week", starting at 17 weeks, you're considered 5 months. This references the month your IN or the month you're working on. I don't know. I wish people would all just go by weeks. Its so much easier.

I usually answer in weeks as well. Most people have an understanding that 20 weeks is half way.

I always get the same answer and being an economist, one would think I can do the math but uh no! I'm not even sure how many months are in a pregnancy. I always assumed 9, but JM calendar has 10! At least, now I know that as of Thursday, I can answer 5 months.

1st Trimester =
Month 0 = Week 0-4
Month 1 = Week 5-8
Month 2 = Week 9-12
Month 3 = Week 13

2nd Trimester =
Month 3 = Week 14-17
Month 4 = Week 18-21
Month 5 = Week 22-25
Month 6 = Week 26-27

3rd Trimester =
Month 6 = Week 28-30
Month 7 = Week 31-34
Month 8 = Week 35-38
Month 9 = Week 39-42

So accoding to my chart, your toward the the begining of 4th month.

What to Expect When You're Expecting states that the 4th month is weeks 14-17, but you wouldn't say you were 4 months until the completion of the 17th week - much like your child's first year will be months 0-12, but you wouldn't call him a year old until he completes month 12. It says the 5th month is 18-22 weeks, so I won't consider myself 5 months until I have completed the 22nd week.

I know just about every website or book has a different chart (and so many people just divide by 4 saying that there are 4 weeks in a month - when there are actually 4 weeks and 3 days [give or take] so that's flawed maths). However, this is the book my doctor has asked me to go by, so I will. =]

I definitely just answer in weeks! It would be easier if months just had 4 weeks each! Lol

only tell people by weeks. i thought it was very strange, before i had kids, when my best friend spoke about her pregnancy in weeks. so i think it's just unfamiliar for folks who haven't been through it. i suppose tracking it in weeks is newer, in the long run, than calling it by months? anyway, sometimes people ask how many months i am, and i still tell them weeks. i've had only a few people ask like, "well how many months is 30 weeks?". then i estimate.
i'd call 18 weeks 4 or maybe 4-1/2 months.

I was thinking about this the other day too. The book the dr gave me says month 5 is weeks 17-20 and because all the different answers, I think I will just stick to weeks answers as well.
