When i measure at 6 weeks and 3 days and saw my doc.. she said no prenatal vitamins are needed .. then i remembered reading up on folic acid and pointed that out.. and then she said 'okay you can take some of that then.. but thats it for now' .. This is my first pregnancy so im not clued up with regards to hat i should and shouldnt be taking. So currenly im 9 weeks 2 days and on nothign except folic acid.. anyone else ? Or does anyone else know what i should be taking? After that Doc appointment was feeling abit demoted and doubting her capabilities... but i dont want to act the expert..
prenatals or good if you have an outrageously unbalanced diet. Folic acid is considered important. as far as her capabilities perhaps you should sit down with her and explain your concerns perhaps her views are more traditional than modern. this would be important as to how you veiw your doctor should be cause if your not comfortable your visits can and will be awkward.

I can't take the typical prenatals the docs give you. The first trimester I take two Flintstones a day. When I hit my second trimester I have to get the chewable prenatals because I can't stomach the pills.
I think if anything you should try taking the Flintstones or something more than folic acid. Folic Acid is very important but there are other things your body needs while pregnant.
My doc doesn't even flinch if I say I can't take my prenatals... she just says, "Okay, are you getting folic acid?" She isn't even terribly worried about that, because almost EVERYTHING is fortified with folic acid these days (I think they started that in the early 90s).
She does encourage me to take them, though. At the same time, women have been having babies without vitamins FOREVER, so... .
My doctor always recommends the vitamins at the first visit or when you call to make your first appt. However, this is most likely a precaution in case you aren't getting the proper nutrition, something women with severe m/s may not be getting. The above are correct, folic acid is very important, additionally, my doc has told me Vitamin D is as well, I had a deficiency, so am taking my prenatals and a Vit D supplement. Of course, I have to take the D supp even when not pg now, she said for forever...bah! Anyways, if you are concerned about her, I would make an appt to sit down with her and talk to her about her views of pg, etc. If your next visit isn't too far away, do it then, but you should be comfortable with her, if you're not, you may want to switch docs.
i told my dr i dont take prenatals cause they made me very sick with my daughter and im also lactose intolaerant and for some reason they have lactose in them, i take folic acid. she told me after 7 weeks folic acid is not that important but i could keep taking it. she told me to eat lots of fruits and veggies that will give me the vitimans i really need. she also told me its easier to obsorb the vitimans when you eat them than taking a pill. so just as long as your eating healthy you should be fine without the vitimans.
